Grants

SHARING INC.

*There is currently a waiting list for grants due to lack of funds

We only take new applications in the month of August.

GRANTS Guidelines

In order to be eligible for a SHARING INC. (SI) grant the child must be: of pre-school to high school age (7-18yrs) while grant is in use and ? living in the same or surrounding counties of the SI office that gives the grant.

Eligible for or receiving assistance under the *Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch Program or receiving financial assistance from a state agency such as welfare, food stamps or similar program.

*Please do not apply if you cannot or will not be able to regularly attend the activity provided. Because we work from donations, we cannot afford to waste funding because a recipient's family will not make their child's regular attendance in the activity a priority. We do not "reimburse" funds used on an activity to anyone.

How are the grants awarded? We place the applicants on a list . When a facility is available to supply their grant activity, grants are given in the order they are received. Students who have never attended an extra curricular activity will be given preference and placed separate from children who have attended an activity. Students are placed on a list provided their complete applications with supporting documentation are received by the announced SI grant deadline. Incomplete, late and non-eligible applications will not be considered for grants.

*A grant will not be awarded to a child if the child chooses not to take an activity at the time it was awarded or it becomes obvious to SI that the child is being “forced” by the parent to choose a certain activity. Another applicant will then be chosen.

How much is each grant? Students who receive grants will be given up to a maximum of $1,000 (whichever is less) per year of the activity tuition charges at a public, private, parochial or church-based extra curricular activity approved by SI.

What about siblings? If one child in a family is selected to receive a grant, his or her siblings who apply can also receive grants if chosen in same batch of applicants.

Why aren’t all fees paid involved in each activity? SI seeks to honor and support parents who are sacrificing to give their children greater educational opportunities. We provide a helping hand and would like for the children to understand that you also have to work to get things in life and not everything can be given to you. Where there is a will, there is a way.The grant recipients will have to participate in SI fundraising activities.

What about transportation? As with most parents who choose for their children to participate in extra curricular activities, each recipient’s parents/guardians are responsible for arranging their transportation to and from the activity. If transportation becomes a problem and the grant recipient can no longer attend the activity, the grant becomes null and void and the funds are returned to SI. The recipient must inform SI and the activity if they choose to discontinue the grant program.

Do certain types of public or private facilities receive preferential treatment? The activities and locations are screened by SI and chosen by what they believe best suits each child. The activities are chosen for their status in the community and their accommodation for our grant program.

Is the scholarship just for public school students? No. The income guidelines are the major determining factor. Our goal is to reach as many children as possible who have never financially had the option of choosing their child's extra curricular activity. Children who have never attended an activity will be given preference in our program.

What happens if a problem occurs between the activity staff and the grant recipient?  If there is a problem with the child or parents/guardian during the duration of the grant and the activity staff chooses to discontinue their service to your child, we must cancel the grant. The situation will be looked into by SI and another place may be chosen or the grant may be cancelled depending upon the findings from our investigation.

*The recipient acknowledges that SI is not responsible for any hardship that the activity location may cause to the recipient. The child attending the activity releases SI from any liability. The recipient and the activity understands that SI is only the funding source for the activity. The parent/guardian is expected to do their own research on the activity location and has the right to refuse to attend at the selected location.

What happens when the child's funds run out? Each child who receives a grant will continue to be in the program as long as SI funds are available. If they choose to change activities, they must be added to a list behind current waiting applicants. If the funds are not available, the parents/guardians may continue on their own with the activity facility’s guidelines. The child will remain on the list until funds become available again, as long as they are following SI's grant guidelines.

What about grants to physically or mentally disabled children? We are only the funding source and are not responsible for the welfare or health of the child in the activity. You can refuse to accept a grant to a certain activity if you feel uncomfortable. Your child must have a release from their disability doctor to attend an activity.

Additional Grant guidelines:·

  •  *the recipient must remain in good standing with their school, community and activity location
  • · the parent/guardian pays their portion of additional activity fees and tuition on time
  • · grant recipient must maintain acceptable attendance at the activity
  • *the recipient must have acceptable grades/conduct (A-B-C) or improve on unacceptable grades/conduct while in the program (no D’s or below)
  • Grants payments are paid for the activity duration and up to amount limited by grant. Payments are made directly to the activity provider. SI has the right to revoke the grant if any of the guidelines are not followed. No grant funds are ever refunded to the scholarship recipient.
