A ~ Portals of GraceBy Azam Ali. CD of the Month of February Portals of Grace
Ben Pode Santa Maria
Lasse Pour Quoi Having been born in Iran and grown up in India, my introduction to the music of Medieval Europe came a little after 1985 when I arrived in the United States. What initially struck me about the music was how similar the melodic sensibility was to the music of my heritage. I could not help but feel the same shudder of awe when I first heard the music of Hildegard Von Bingen as I did when I was a child walking by temples in India and hearing prayers and chants sung through the sound of ringing bells. I felt that even though the musical approach was quite different due to cultural differences, the root desire of the music, to commune with God and sing his praises, evoked the same sentiments. At times I feel this music strikes a chord within me that is as old as my soul itself and transcends the confines and myths of illusory time and space. Recommended by Aislin_Ni_MorRhiaghan, 3/25/2005.

MidsummerBy Heather Alexander. From its humble beginnings so many years ago, this album has now been digitally re-recorded and mastered for compact disc! Midsummer contains all-new performances of the original 10 songs, with the addition of two brand new songs, and two that were hard to find, or only on cassette. With the addition of Rob Wullenjohn on bass, Brett Barnett on keyboards, and the Wicked Tinkers— a bagpipe and drums trio (who make the March of Cambreadth sound like you’ve never heard it before!), this visit to the Heatherlands sets the stage for songs where Puck plays his pranks and Beauty braves the Beast. Available for 17.99 from www.heatherlands.com Recommended by Aislin_Ni_MorRhiaghan, 5/4/2004.
