JUMPINPIN AND LOGAN. 22/5/08.

All the beaches are fishing well for "Tailor", though care must be taken with the erosion that has taken place along some stretches of the coast and many surf beaches. Their are some really top fish in the schools. There are a few Australian Salmon" mixed in with these schools. Dart are beginning to feature on the beaches as well, so you are really getting spoiled with choice over the next month.

You can't go past "Scotties" "Salmon Deceivers", for the salmon if you do get amongst a school, or try a # 2/0 - # 3/0 Red or orange Deceiver, tied with plenty of Opalescence and Silver Krystal Flash, tied into the wing. Tie in a short throat of "Red Fluoro Fibre", in all these flies.

It doesn't matter where you launch your boat, or are fishing from the bank, there will be "Bream" "Flathead" and "Whiting" in nearly every part of "The Pin" This is one of the two best times of the year to fish this area, and as it isn't too hot at the moment, you will enjoy fishing over night, remember the "Mossies, though as they are there in the millions. Don't forget your favourite cream, especially for the kids , as you don't want the wains to have their holiday spoiled for forgetting the AeroGuard , and as the advert says "AVAGOODWEEKEND"

For holiday makers and locals there is one great fishing "SMORGASBORD here for the TAKING", in this superb part of the fishing world, and this is indeed a world class fishing area. As it stretches from Point Lookout all the way along the coast, past "JUMPINPIN continuing down the coast to "Labrador" in the south, and also all the inland areas inside the "PIN BAR " itself.

BREAM : All areas that have sea grass in it are good spots to chase these fish, so take your pick as the PIN has plenty of these areas. "Short Island, the Pig Sties, Tiger Mullet Channel.

FLATHEAD: Tiger Mullet Channel, on the ebb tide, the main channel at "Ruddy Ma-as" moorings, and all the main channels, Mackenzie's Hole, Kalinga Bank, Gold Bank.

MUD CRABS : With all the water that has been flowing down to the river to bar, try starting Inside the "pin Bar" and in all the small creeks through out the entire region.

SAND WHITING :Green Bank, Slipping Sands Between the Bedrooms and "Tipplers", also a great place for big "Rays"

"TAILOR" : You can encounter these fish every-where at the moment through-out the whole system.

RIVER.17/12/07.

Well it won't be long until the Christmas crowd is with us again and all the fishing hot spots will be thronged with fishers of all persuasions and skills. Please remember that they don't know our fishing rules and regulations so if they are doing something wrong, please advise them before the "H and M", clobbers them with a fine. Reports that I've had in the last week are that all the usual fishing spots are firing, best local knowledge for the holiday fishers, will be found by asking your friendly "Bait and Tackle Shop Owners", who are always ready to put you on the correct place as well as the best bait, lures and flies.

If you are after some really top notch "Flathead" this next month, well then you can't beat any , or al,l of the main channels from the mouth of the "Logan River" all the way to Ruddy Maas Boatyard, then from there to the Pylons at the entrance to the Logan river. Biggest fish are caught fishing with deep diving lures, fished on the bottom, one of my favourites in tis extended areas, is a "Gold Bomber" followed by the "Olive back", with the orange belly, then the White one with the Red throat. I prefer Bombers, because I have complete faith in them, but other lures an the same weight and colours would probably do just as well.

Pillies rigged on a set of #1/0. gang hooks, or a set off #3/0."Gang Hooks"will do every bit as well this next month, as will a # 3/0 - a #5/0. "Scotties Flathead Killer", fished on or near the bottom as the boat drifts, will give you the best of the sport with "Flatheads".

If you are casting and retrieving, then the best spots are the drop offs from the sand banks where all the bait-fish congregate as the tide is going out, and that's where "Mrs" Flathead [the big ones] are waiting on them coming over the edge. You will have to fish the fly over these drop offs, but it definately works and will out fish the Bait and Lure fishers.

Crabs are in all the small creeks that feed into this system so make sure that you take your Quoto of pots with you, as they are a tasty bit of "TOP TUCKER" for a beach BBQ.

Whiting are all over the sand banks near the bottom end of the river system, so try the long wand for these and you wont fish any other way for them again.

Trevally: infront of "Jacobs Well" boatramp and the village, try fishing a "Big Black Spinner fly", just a spider pattern, but with a tail of black squirrel fibres, to balance the flyon the water, Tie the hackle long, you will find it best to use a "Chinese" cape than waste the feathers from a "Genetic" cape, as you need that size to get the # 10 TMC. 700 fly hooks to float properly.Besttime for this sport with the Trevors, is from about five in the afternoon until an hour into the gloaming.

Luderick, or Black Bream, are well into the river system, so be sure to pick up some weed flies, to have a good chance of success, best place to fish is where some other guys are fishing weed, as this helps to "Burlet" the area up, and your "Green Weed Flies".should last for at least a dozen fish, up to seventeen or more. The weed fishers with them loosing their bait after every down, will keep the fish in the swim with the bait they are loosing.

When you are in this area, anywhere that you can walk over the Dunes to the Surf Beach, take your "Tailor Gear" with you as there are some good schools of some nice "GreenBacks ranged along all thesurfing spots, on the East Coast, fro, Evans and Brunswick Heads, to Burleigh Heads in the top end of our part of the Coast...

'

Tight lines over the festive season.

With a trophy fish for you all in the new year.

desi and Jan.

JUMPINPIN AND SURROUNDING BEACHES. 7/02/07.

Good “Flathead are hanging around all the drop off from the “Pin Bar” all the way up into the “Logan River System”, that's from the bar, upstream past “Short Island, keeping all the way upto “Russell” island, any of the drop off will produce fish, to a well presented fly. Whilst you are fishing these places it will pay you to have another rod with a “Whiting Fly” all readies rigged up, on your tippet. Again you will find these top class “Whiting Flies” in the groups fly recipes for estuaries. If you don’t have much success with the flathead then it’s worth a try for “Summer Whiting” , only fish over the sand banks.

Turning south down past the “Bedrooms”, this is a super spot to fish the fly for “Whiting”. Continuing down past “Ti[ppers Tavern” there are good “Flathead” all through the deeper channels from there to the Sand Banks at “Southport. One of the best spots for really monster “Flathead” is through the moorings at “Rudy Maas”, drifting all through these deep channels will always produce good fish, now it’s no matter whether you are drifting with a fly, a lure or a lively. they take really savage all through this area, if the tide isn’t suitable for drifting, then there are always fishing through the moorings for both “Jacks” and Bream” both of which grow to a decent size as there aren’t too many fisher men who fish round these moorings, and remember that it is legal for you to fish this area amongst the moored boats. !!! BUT !!! don’t try and board any off the moored boats, or you will really be in trouble as they are under 24 hours surveillance.

Carrying further up towards the mouth of the “Logan River” this again is good flathead country, keep fishing the deep channels and carry on through the Pylons and up into the “Logan River its’self.

When you are in this area or if you launched in the “logan River” all the chanels in this area are full of fish, where ever you stop, just think and you will soon realize what sort of tackle you will need to use, to get the species that will be using the area you are in. This is bcause even in one of the chanels, you may have three species haning out in different places, all though where ever you fish you will pick up the “Ubiquitous” “Toadie” if you leave your bait, fly or lure, lying on the bottom too llong.

Good trevally abound in the the area from “Never Fail Island” all down the chanels to the “Sea Way” at “South Port”.

JUMPINPIN. 12/12/06.

With the freshwater that has run into the “Pin”, area this last week, there will be some decent muddies. “Mudies”, so it’s definitely the time to take the permitted number of pots with you when you have a trip down there. Try “Jacob's Island", "Short Island", "Crusoe Island", "Tulleen Island", and near the "Pylons” for good “Bream" and "Flathead". and the occasional "Mangrove Jack"..

Try the “Slipping Sands",+ the sand banks near the “Old Police Fishing Club Huts” for good quality “Sand Whiting”, also try “The Five Ways”, but if you want the best chance for “Elbow Thumpers”,my favourite spot for the best quality elbow thumping Whiting” is in the "Mackenzie Channel”, this is well worth a couple of pots for muddies as well. Keep you eyes on them though if leaving them in overnight, as I have lost a good few down here to some unscrupulous vandals. "*******S" !!!

If you like to fish for “Estuary Cod” then the best spot is “Tiger Mullet Channel” fish all round the muddied foreshore for some nice fish, not big, but big enough.

"Mangrove Jack", try "Mackenzie's Channel" and "Cobby Cobby Passage", remember that there is also the chance of hooking a “Trophy Sized Flathead”, in both of these spots, but remember the legal sizes. Another top spot is “Tulleen Island”, if you want to do a spot of trolling for “Flathead”.

Tight lines desi
