RECORD BROWN TROUT.

I had an email recently asking if I knew how big, “Brown Trout”, grew ??? . I had to reply of my ignorance, as to the weight that these fish can grow to, but could only say that the world record for a rod, caught Brown Trout was 40 lb. and 4 oz. Caught in 1992 in a tributary of the White river in Arkansa, USA.

I need to say though that, “I am sure that this was caught by a guy using a spinner, his name eludes me at the moment, but I know that he was a “Colonel. ( rtrd)”. In the US Services. He held the hen fish in a makeshift dam, for a couple of days, to keep it alive until he could get certified scales to weigh the fish, as he apparently was way up into the sticks. Though the fish did die later on after weighing it. The guy did his utmost to keep the fish alive to spawn again. (It could have been a build up of Lactose Acid in its body. But who knows !!!. ) I’d like to say that allthough it was taken by a spinner, it was still a mighty effort to land a fish of that size, by any means.

On the subject of big fish and how big they can grow, a guy called Lionel Jackson, in the UK. grows fish on his breading farm ( land locked ), and has currently rainbows said to be” 80 lb”. He keeps these big fish in an indoor ponds and has a system of ultra violet lights , and feed them special tucker, that he has devised to make them grow. He sells these huge fish to stock fishing Dams and Lochs etc. etc, where the public pays a price to fish the water for trophy fish for a day!!!! . Very popular in the UK and Europe.

He said in an article that I read a few years ago, that he could grow rainbows to any size that people wanted, the only thing that woud stop him was trhe high cost to the purchasers of these fish, If I remember correctly, to buy one of these monsters was 20,000. UK sterling. That was a few years ago so God only knows what they would cost now.
