Easter Fly Fishing and Winter Casting Schools
Dear Desi,
Finally a moment between guiding jobs to drop you a line. It has been a
remarkably busy season for us and the fishing has been terrific. More
about that later.
I have been fortunate enough to have had the past two days off from the
regular guiding work. The weather has been superb with crystal clear
cloudless skies. Bright sunshine and zero wind. This is typical Autumn
weather for Tasmania.
I fished with my mate Nick for the past two evenings here on Brumbys
Creek. We took just the one Taransky cane rod to share and the joy of it
was as much about the sharing and companionship as it was about the fishing
and the experiencing of this unique and beautiful environment.
Clouds upon clouds of hatching caddis danced over the water with the
magical Great Western Tiers as a backdrop. The half moon was high in the
sky and yellow like the flame of a candle. I am sure it was this light
that the caddis worshiped.
As I knelt low in the tussocks to make use of the days fading light I
noticed many of the caddis skating and skittering along the surface in a
frenzy to mate. The trout took them well and many of the wise, old, large
trout were out feeding. The takes were solid and guaranteed when a good
cast was made.
We missed a few, broke a few and got a couple. We commented on the walk
back to the conference centre that we really are lucky to live in this
beautiful state and within walking distance of such a wonderful fishery.
Over a delicious hot chocolate we developed and tied a couple of new
skating caddis patterns. I cannot wait until tonight to try these new
flies out.
EASTER WEEKEND 'LIVE IN'
BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE FLY FISHING AND CASTING
WORKSHOP
Autumn truly is a special time in Tasmania and perhaps you should think
about coming down to enjoy what is left of the trout season. Today I
received an email from Jetstar telling of their Easter sale. Melb to Lau
is just $39 and Syd to Lau is not much more expensive at $59. I see that
Virgin too are matching Jetstars prices.
We have a Live In Beginners / Intermediate workshop weekend scheduled
over the Easter break of 7th and 8th April. There are still spaces left so
why not come along for the weekend tuition program. Bring your partner or
your kids and spend time sharing the wonderful joys of fly fishing with
the spirit of like minded people.
You are free to fish after school and these evenings should provide you
with plenty of catching opportunities to put into practice what you have
learnt. I would also like to offer you a Stay On package that would
enable you to stay and enjoy a little more fishing or a leisurely tour of
the regions wineries or perhaps a round or two of golf at the now world
famous Barn Bougle Dunes course. (The fishing here can be sensational, see
the article in the FlyLife magazine, issue 45).
Course cost is $400/person and this covers accommodation in twin rooms,
all meals, tuition and gear.
Our stay on package is $65/night bed and breakfast. You may self cater
your evening meals or perhaps eat out at one of the local hotels or
restaurants.
If you are able to get along simply email me back with your Visa or
Mastercard and expiry date and I will forward all course notes and an
information sheet. I hope you can find the time.
Kind regards
Peter
PS> WINTER FLY CASTING CLASSES
I have started to set the winter casting course dates and I will email a
full set of course dates to you shortly. I have set the first Sydney
classes and these are as follows:
Saturday 26th May Full day Intermediate class - $200
Sunday 27th May 9am to noon, Advanced Distance, $140
Sunday 27th May - 1pm to 4pm, Advanced Tune Up, $140
PPS> GUIDING AVAILABILITY - 18 - 22 April inclusive.
We have just had a guided trip cancel for the week 18 to 22 April
inclusive. We would love to have a couple of lucky anglers fill this gap
and given the relatively short notice we would like to offer this space to
you at a cost of $2200 ea based on two anglers. This is a saving of $400
from our normal rate. Cost includes 5 days guided fishing, 5 nights
accommodation and all meals and airport transfers. Just bring your
personal effects and alcohol. We will supply the good time.
