TALLEBUDGERA and CURRUMBIN CREEKS. 7/7/08.

Due to the unsettled weather both creeks haven't been fishing well and out at the Creek Mouths, the water is as dangerous as I have seen it for many years, so forget beach fishing, from Burleigh to Pottsville.

It's worth wetting a line if you can tuck into some of the spots well out of the wind, but whatever you do don't venture ner the rivermouths.

The guys fishing from the bridges at night have been reporting some good quality fish, although, it's just whatever you are lucky enough to catch, as it's really a hit and a miss. Best fishing will be next weekend when the water clears, and all fishing will improve as will the weather.

22/5//08.

Fishing has picked up in both creeks i the last wekk, so it's definately worth wetting a line, this coming weekend. For local knowledge see the Boat Yard, at the bridge to find where the best fishing is to be found and you can pick your bait up whilst you are there.

That said the best Creek of the two is still Tallebudgera, though, bost are fishing well, but Tally has many superior spots to fish, including all the bridges and the river mouth.

Of the two creeks, the top fishing one is definately "Tally" Creek, if any of you have kept upt o date with Angus "Flyrot" column you will see the different species that are now appearing in this famous old creek.

The areas both sides of the Gold Coast Highway Bridge, are especially suitable for fishing the long wand, ans you can chase practically any species in theseplav]ces, even some reef species get in there now and again, not forgetting that last year there were even some "MILK FISH", yes, I kid you not, as the climate and the water temperature changes, I son't think it will be to long [decade or two] till we have Barramundi, native in this magnificent area.

If you read Brownies column in the Sunday paper, you would have seen the photos of the ffish that one of the readers caught fishing from his Grandads jetty in front of his house in one of the canals.

With the weather that we have been having of late, the best place to fish is in these sheltered waters in these creeks, at least you won't have the mountainous waves that are pounding the beaches and taking the sand away again, making it a drop of between six and eight feet to the beach proper, though the point of going onto the beach, beats me as all the beaches are still closed since before Xmas, by the surf and life guards.

Of the two creeks Tallebudgera is the favourite with more sheltered areas to fish, especially with the news from Angus aboutthe number of Mangrove Jacks hanging around the jeeties in this area,Remember where there is any obstructions in the water, stone walls, Jetties, Bridge pylons, thats the place that you will find these hard hittinng fish, Remember of course to use a slightly heavier tippet when fishing for these dogged fighters, as they will bust you up quicker than you can think, far less say "Jack Robinson", also they have a nice set of dentures that will soon fray through light tippets.

Angus also mentions that he is beginning to see more fish from warmer climes appearing in his beloved creek, in the last few weeks he has seen another four species not normally associated with southern Queensland waterways.

The flies prefered at this time of the year are a "Floating Dahlberg Minnow" fished on a sinking line, with a leader of only at the most a metre, so that when you give a short pull the line will cause the fly to dart towards the bottom, and when you stop it will float up looking like a darting baitfish, either the "Orange" or the "Red" marabou tail is the best choice followed by Chartreuse. The strips should only be at the most a metre, even twoo feet will sufice to greate the draw and float technique, that you are trying to copy.

Care is still needed even in these areas as there is some big tree limbs and rubbish floating downstream, and if you are in the water fishing could still cause a major catastrophe.

For the holiday makers, if you want to have a days fishing, see Angus's column and book a days fishing with him and his boats and you are guaranteed to have a top day on the water with a very congenial host and a top fishing guide.

It's nearly Xmas holidays and the fish at this time are beginning to pile into the creeks, what with the extra water we have had in the district, flowing into the creeks helping to fatten up the bait fish, and attract the bigger fish in after them, and the Pelagics in after them, it looks as though this Xmas Holidays will be a bottler as far as the holiday fishing goes. So far the best fishing is to be had in Tallebudgera Creek and the Immediate area at the river mouth and then the rocks all the way up to the South side of Burleigh.

Chance of Bream,Flathead, and Chopper Tailor from the beach and the mouth of the both Creeks. Don't forget to take your pots with you if you are boating, or if you are in a deeper part of the river away, from the crowds and the sand, as the crabs have been flushed out and are in the lower section of the system.

Inside the creeks, treat it like a river system and fish the sand bar for Whiting on the top of the bank, and Flathead when the tide turns and is beginning to run out and carry the bait fish to the waiting "Big Flatties" remembering to only take what you need , and if you aren't going to have them for a feed, and there is definately wrong with that idea, [ i'm available for any Flathead BBQ';'s lol], be careful and ice them as the hot weather will turn them to mush if you don't treat them with a wee bit of TLC.

Trevally upstream of both "Gold Coast" road bridges, in the large flat areas at both of the places. Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all and especially the Tourists, and remember to come back next year as well as the fish will be***** Yes , one year bigger. !!!!!. lol.

TALLEBUDGERA and CURRUMBIN CREEKS. 11/11/07..

Hi all back on deck after an enforced stay away from the water, for a few months this year [again] with a wee bit of luck I may hit the aqua vita, around Christmas this year, although there isn't much of the year left.

Fishing still isn't the best in these two creeks, the best of the fishing over the next two months will be either in the Tweed River, and it's main tributaries, where there is a complete smorgasboard of species for the guys willing to use the long wand and tie a few flies/lures for himself or his mates. You will ofcourse catch some fish using lures, or bait, but as it's the time of good cheer, so don't drown anymore worms, yabbies, or beach worms, unless that's the only way you know how to fish,

However, if you are near that area, and you don't want to travel, there are some "Flathead" about, best place to pick them up is the drop of's where the shallow sand banks drop off into deeper water, especially if it's a yabby bank, or where sand worms abound, the fly does well in both of these ideal places to throw a well presented fly. Flies to try are Scotties Flathead Killer, followed by a Yellow and Red "SeaDucer", then try Lefty's Deceiver's in Red/White, Orange/white and then the "Gun Fly": a Claret and White", using the back of a red bucktail as the Claret, part of the deceivers wing.Don't over do the flash in any of these patterns, unless the water is dirty after a lot of rain!!! (OHHHH!! if only the South East of Queensland could be soooo !!!, lucky. lol)

There are some very good Whiting in the lower end of both creeks, which are biting well on "Scottie Yabby Patterns" in Orange and Pearlescent backs, with claws made of Golden Pheasant Back feathers stiffend using Floo glue, or similar, then cut to shape of the claws that are so obvious on a "Ghost Shrimp" or Yabbies as they are better known in Queensland.

Trevalley around the 1.5kilo are hanging around Throwers Bridge on the upstream side of the inlet, and some verry good "Flathead" lie about the flats infront of the RSL club premises just there.
