*************************************************************************** Karate for Christ group promotes first black belts Students at the Middleburg United Methodist Self Defense Ministry received the school's first ever black belt awards at a ceremony held at the Family Life Center at Middleburg United Methodist Church on Main Street May 24. The 3?-year-old self-defense ministry is led by Gary Lenzi, senior instructor, and is certified through Karate For Christ International, the largest Christian martial arts sanctioning body in the world. Not only are the martial arts taught, but all students in the program are required to do specific assigned Bible studies at each belt level. Each time a student tests for the next belt level, they must also pass a test on their assigned Bible study as well the karate testing. In February, a second ministry was formed as Evangel Temple Assembly of God Karate Ministry and is also now a certified school for Karate for Christ International. For information, call Lenzi at 651-7767. Those earning their black belts on May 24 were Christina Westerwelle, 13; Marissa Long, 14; Zackery Smith, 17; Christopher Stover, 19; and Simeon Williams, 20. During that same period they have done in depth studies of 12 books of the Bible, including most all of the New Testament. "Getting your first black belt is not the end of a journey but the beginning of a new journey," Lenzi said. "Now that you have achieved this advanced level of recognition for your work, you now become servant leaders in your community as you continue to hone your karate skills." Attending the ceremonies in support of the ministry were Handly Caraway II, ninth degree black belt and Grand Master of National American Tang Soo Do Association and Professor Charlie Phillips, master instructor for the American Tang Soo Do Club at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. By the end of July, we will have the KFCI site up and functioning. PLEASE, keep this in your prayers... and be patient... The current site has had som many people work on it in various programs that it is alomost unfunctional at this time. ALso remember, when the new site starts, only certified schools will appear. All will still get the newletter, but we spend the majority of our time updating information on schools that we don't even know the instructors for. This will change in July, and the KFCI site will exist to serve our certified schools that are serving our Lord. We pray that ALL will get certified soon. Locate a KFCI school near you.
