Mat Size (Nationals and Classics)

42' deep by 54' wide for High School, Junior High and All-Star Teams.

Routine Time Limits (now more suitable for television… allowing more routines to be shown)

High School/Junior High

Each team will perform a choreographed routine not to exceed 2 1/4 minutes (135 seconds).

Up to 1 minute and 15 seconds (75 seconds) of the routine may be performed to music.

All-Star Teams

Each team will perform a choreographed routine not to exceed 2 1/4 minutes (135 seconds). Music is required for all of the routine. (Teams may still cheer, use signs, poms, etc.)

QUALIFICATION FOR NASCC
There are four ways to qualify for the 2002 National All Star Cheerleading Championship!
1. A UCA Summer Camp - When you win a superior trophy or camp championship trophy you will qualify for the preliminary round of the NASCC
2. Video Qualification - Teams may submit a video tape of their routine (same format as a regional routine) to the UCA office on or before
December 13, 2001. VIDEO TAPES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DEADLINE.
Teams qualifying from Video Entry will qualify for the preliminary round of the NASCC.
3. UCA Competitions and Invitationals - Any event prior to January 15, 2002 that is designated a qualifer for the NASCC - call the office for details.
4. NASCC Regional Tournament - First place teams at the NASCC Regional Tournament automatically qualify for the semi final round of the National Championship. At-large bids will also be given for the preliminary rounds.

NASCC TIME LIMITS
Overall time limit has been increased to 2 minutes 30 seconds.
* Cheer / Music Routine Music Time - 1 min. 45 sec.
* Overall Time - 2 min. 30 sec.
* All Music Routine Overall Time - 2 min. 30 sec.

Jazz ~ emphasis on dance movements, synchronization, and technique. Funk is an acceptable style that may be used in this category. No Props.

Junior ~ 9th grade and under

Varsity ~ 9th - 12th grade for school teams

Sr. All Star ~ 12th grade and under

Pom ~ emphasis on synchronization and visual effect. 80 % of the routine must incorporate movement and dance with pom pons in hand. No other hand held props are permitted.

Junior ~ 9th grade and under

Varsity ~ 9th - 12th grade for school teams

Sr. All Star ~ 12th grade and under

Open ~ 18 years and up; all star, college and international teams combined. No qualification necessary for Nationals!

Guidelines:

Cheer Team Routines:

Total routine time must be at least 2 minutes in length, but no greater than 2 minutes and 30 seconds

Routines must include at least one cheer, chant or sideline (see all star exception below)

Routines must include a musical segment of at least 45 seconds, but no greater than 1 minute and 15 seconds inclusive of the total routine length (see all star exception below)

Routines must include at least 4 eight counts of dance in the musical segment

Routines should be choreographed so that the routine flows from one element to another

Routines should include gymnastic and jump skills

All Star teams may use music for the entire routine (optional)

Dance Team Routines:

Routines must be at least 2 minutes, but no greater than 2 minutes and 30 seconds

Routines must be performed entirely to music

Pyramid building, stunts, partner stunts or tumbling are not permitted (this includes "head-over-heels" rolls of any kind)

Routines should be choreographed to demonstrate the required elements of the chosen category 

Individual Cheer and Crowdleader Routines:

Routines cannot exceed 2 minutes in total length

Routines must include at least one cheer, chant or sideline

Routines must include a musical segment of at least 45 seconds, but not greater than 1 minute and 15 seconds inclusive of the total routine length

Routines must include at least 4 eight counts of dance in the musical segment

Total routine must be at least 1 minute, but no greater than 1 minute and 15 seconds

Routines must be performed entirely to music with stunting only

Routines must not include tumbling or jumps (including head-over-heels rolls of any kind)

Routines should be choreographed to demonstrate a variety of stunts and transitions

All Star rule exceptions do not apply

NEW - Power Jumper Routines:

Must be at least 30 seconds, but no greater than 45 seconds in length

Must be performed entirely to music with jumping only

Must included at least 4 different jumps

Must not include more than one prep between each jump

Must not include tumbling (including head-over-heels rolls of any kind)

Must not incorporate props

Should be choreographed to demonstrate a variety of jumps and transitions

Should exhibit creativity in landings and preps

NEW - Power Tumbler Routines:

Cannot exceed 45 seconds in length

Must be performed entirely to music with tumbling only

Must include exactly two diagonal passes with each pass including exactly 5 tricks beginning from a power hurdle

Must not incorporate props

Should be choreographed to demonstrate a variety of tumbling skills

All Star rule exceptions apply

NEW - Power Pyramids Routines:

Must be at least 1 minute, but no greater than 1 minute and 15 seconds in length

Must be performed entirely to music with pyramid transitions only

May include free standing stunts only during transitions

Must not include tumbling or jumps (including head-over-heels rolls of any kind)

Must not incorporate props

Should be choreographed to demonstrate a variety of pyramids and transitions

All Star rule exceptions apply

Squad Classification:

School - Squads who cheer for school athletic teams.

All Star - Squads who do not cheer for an athletic team.

Association - Squads who cheer for an association team or recreation league team for a full season.

SCHOOL DIVISIONS

 

Varsity - High School Varsity squads.

JV - High School JV, B-Team, Reserve squads, Freshmen squads (all 9th graders or squads with majority 9th graders).

Jr. High/Middle - School squads composed of less than 50% 9th graders and younger.

ALL STAR DIVISIONS

 

Senior All Star - All Star squads with a member in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. No minimum age.

Junior All Star - All Star squads whose highest grade level is 9th.

Youth All Star - All Star squads whose highest grade level is 6th.

Pee Wee All Star - All Star squads whose highest grade level is 4th.

ASSOCIATION DIVISIONS

 

Junior Association - Association Squads with a member in the 9th grade and under.

Youth Association - Association Squads with a member in the 6th grade and under.

MIXED DIVISIONS

 

Senior Coed - Varsity and Senior All Star squads with 3 or more males.

Senior Non-Mount - School squads or Association squads that do not stunt who have a member in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade. May have males.

Junior Non-Mount - School squads or Association squads that do not stunt who have a member in 9th grade and under. May have males.

Pee Wee School/Association* - School squads or Association Squads with a member in the 4th grade and under.
