The Ocean DwellersWhen the High Ones fell, not all the elves fled into the forest or mountains.
Some fled to the sanctuary of the sea. In the beginning there were 7 Ocean
Dwellers, out of these 7 they had a flesh shaper and a healer. The fleshshaper
began to watch the dolphins, and soon with the aid of the healer, he shaped
himself fins. The others quickly followed his example with the exception of
Kissik, who took on the form of a tiger fish. Because of her transformation, she
was never able to recognize nor have children ever.
They dove deep into the ocean and lived beneath the waves far from humans and
other dangers. Because of their new forms, the magical powers they had started
to fade. They did not need powers to survive in the ocean.
Marek, one of the High Ones was chosen to lead. They called him Crown. He
mated with Savanee and they produced one son, Logain. Under his tutelage, Marek
brought peace and understanding to the Ocean Dwellers. Because of his mating
with Savanee, others began to produce children, most of them with the healer’s
aid until her powers no longer functioned properly. Soon the Ocean Dwellers
numbered 25 and life was good.
Marek finally died when he was attacked by a shark. Logain became Crown and
led the Ocean Dwellers into deeper waters. It was this reason that the Ocean
dwellers started to dwindle. They encountered creatures that they were not
accustom to dealing with. Many of the Ocean Dwellers died. Logain eventually led
them back to the oceans that they were familiar with. Logain finally settled
down and mated with Braille. They had two children, Marill and Casli. Braille
died immediately after the birth of Casli. Though Logain was devastated, he
raised his children to be responsible elves. When the children were old enough,
Logain ended his life by swimming into a storm and was never heard from
again.
Marill took over as Crown, the first female Crown. She took the elves into
another part of the oceans, this time closer to land. They discovered a system
of underground caverns where they could get out of the water and lie on the
sandy floors. This came in handy when they discovered land bound elves in the
ocean and would save their lives.
Marill eventually recognized a wanderer, a land elf named Bluestar. The
recognition was a first between a land elf and sea elf. Their son, Fishtail was
born with his mother’s physical appearance. Bluestar left the sea tribe for a
short time and brought back some of the land elves in his tribe. Mingling
bloodlines again, the Ocean Dwellers prospered again, now numbering over 30
mer-elves and elves alike.
For years the Tribe lived in peace and harmony until one day a violent storm
hit. A small hunting party was not able to get out of the crosswinds and were
smashed against the rocks, including Marill and Bluestar. Fishtail become
Crown.
Fishtail kept communication with the land elves for a while until he decided
to see if there were other tribes of elves. The Ocean Dwellers left and began to
wander the oceans. They picked up other elves along the way, Mer-elves from
other Ocean Dwelling tribes. They came to where they currently reside now, in the Oceans near Shadow Vale.
Fishtail recognized and had two Sons, Neptune and Spearfish. He trained both
sons how to fight and defend the tribe, something they did not think they
needed. He taught them how to kill the great sharks, trap the eight legged
octopuses and train the manta rays to aid them. He also caught a dolphin and
learned how to communicate with them. Tho they never bond with the dolphins, the
elves and dolphins are great friends and allies.
Fishtail died in his sleep one night and Spearfish took over as Crown.
Spearfish was not a very capable leader. He was more concerned with hunting
and fishing then he was for the tribe. His younger brother, Neptune was just as
incapable and it led the tribe to disaster.
One day, a human ship appeared and the Mer-elves being curious swan up to see
what was going on. They were attacked and many were killed including Spearfish.
Neptune and the others fled back to their underwater caverns and stayed there
until one day Kissik discovered two strangers. They saved their lives and went
out and found their tribe, a tribe of Sea Elves who bonded with dolphins, yet
who had taken to living on a boat like humans, in search of a tribe of land
elves of whom they were friends with. After a short while, The Ocean dwellers
went to their leader, Swifteel and asked to join their tribe under his
leadership. He accepted.
Ocean Dweller Guidelines
The Ocean Dwellers are almost like the Surf Riders. There are similar
differences.
Soulnames: The Ocean Dwellers do not have Soulnames unless they are
wanderers. Any of the Natives do not have them. If they are born to a wanderer
and a native, they have a 50/50 chance of having one.
Blood: Pure blood, but some can have a mixture if their parents were cat or
wolf blooded.
Eyes: Their eye color varies from Blue to Greens
Hair: Hair color tends to be light with greenish tints due to the constant
contact with the Sea.
Height: Average heights for the Ocean Dwellers is 5’8 - 7’0 with tails.
Tails: The Mer-Elves tails are usually multicolored due to the salty water.
Talents: They do not have any of these with the exception of Magic Feeling,
Skimming (sort of like Gliding, only on water), Sending and Animal
Communication.
Clothing: The Ocean Dwellers do not have cloth clothing. The females wear
shells over their breast, but some chose not to. They do not wear shoes at all
Bondbeast: They have dolphins and other sea creatures as pets, but no bonds.
Humans: They do not like and will attack to defend themselves. As a rule, they try to avoid them.
Trolls: The Ocean Dwellers have never seen one and never will.
Homes: The Ocean Dwellers live in underground caverns.
Special Points of Interest: The Ocean Dwellers can breath underwater without
the aid of gills. Their lungs developed themselves over a period of years to do
this. Some mer-elves do have gills, but not all.
