 June 2003

June 29, 2003

Last night when we were coming back from visiting my aunts and also my grandma, grandpa and Tony at the RV park, we saw fireworks going off in Elkhorn.  My mom drove to where they were coming from and we sat out and watched.  They were so cool.  It was a nice night out,  not hot or buggy and it was so fun just being able to sit and watch.  I can hardly wait until the 4th of July because we have some fireworks and it will be so fun shooting them off.  This is a great time of year when we celebrate our country's independence.  And you all know how patriotic I am....you know I love it!

Oh, my mom ordered my competition dress.  It's so cool.  It's a Russian folk dress and she ordered it from Satin Spirals.  You can go to their website to see it.  I think the web address is www.satinspirals.com so check it out.  When you get there click onto character dresses and it's the one called Russian Dance.  Tell me what you think.

There's only 4 days of skating this week since the holiday falls on Friday.  I'm going to try and work really hard.

Better go.  Send me a line.

Love,

Sarah

I know it has been a few days since I last wrote but I have been very busy.  First of all, I had major dental work.  I mean I had a tooth taken out and that was major to me.  It is going to help with my teeth getting straighter.  Anyway, it was very painful.  My mom also had a tooth in the back taken out and she was very sick from it.  You should have seen us.  We were two sickies!   I skated anyway!  It started to bleed a little but I was alright and I even landed my jumps.  I am having so much fun in this summer program.  I think I'll include a page with my program day....how's that sound?Be looking for it.  By the way, I finally got my film in to be developed.   I have 3 sets so be looking for alot of new pics in the future....hopefully within 2 weeks.  I can't wait!

This past weekend was my mom's birthday.   We went down to Lincoln and visited my aunts and also my grand parents.  My grandpa and grandpa Boyd are here in their RV staying at a really cool camp.  We went there on Saturday and had a BBQ and also had cake and ice cream for my mom.  We sang Happy Birthday and everything!  My grandma Gladys was there who is 93 years old!  She is great!  We stayed in our Spunky Mobile in Lincoln and it was fun.  We haven't slept in that for quite awhile. ( We got an apartment in Omaha and really like it alot.  It's perfect for us right now. )

I have my new competition dress picked out.  We don't know if we are buying it online or having a designer make it.  We got ahold of the designer and we are talking about having her make it.  It's a Russian Folk dress for my new program.  I'm so excited.  I love my program too.  It's alot of fun but really hard!  It is so fast!  But, it is fun!

Am gonna go for now.  I'm reading the new Harry Potter book.  I love it!

Love,

Sarah

I think this is the first week it has started to get hot here.   Today I got sunburned at the track meet.  But, I had so much fun!  I actually got a 4th place ribbon for the 400 meter run.  I ran so hard and had a personal best.  I didn't place in the 100 or the 200 but I had my fastest 200.  Not bad since I just started running a couple weeks ago.  These kids are really good!   I also finally got some spikes for distance and they are awesome!  I think they even helped with my 200.  This week I'm going to try practicing some longer runs and may even graduate to running the 800.  My mom took lots of pictures so I hope to get them on the website soon.  Anyway, it was really hot there today.  Most of you know I hate the heat and love the cold.  That is why I'm a figure skater.  But, I also like to run and so I'll just have to deal with the summer heat.   I wanted to throw up after the 400 run.   My mom just poured water over my head and made me walk a little.  She used to run the 200 when she was in high school and even went to the finals in state.  So, I guess she knows a little of what it feels like.  There were so many people at the track meet.  Families everywhere.   And there were tons of tents.   I guess people just pitch a tent and hang out all day.  My mom said we'll have to get some sort of cover for the next track meet.

Skating was awesome this week, too!  I can't wait until Monday so I can get on the ice again.   And I love my new program.  It reminds me of Michelle Kwan's choreography to her "Fields of Gold" program.  I'm just going to have to go watch that program again on tape because I'm sure there are alot of the same moves in it.   I think I told you I am going to be competing in the Colorado Championships Aug. 3-9th.  It is in Arvada, Colorado and I have heard that it is a really tough competition.  I use to think the California competitions were tough.  Good thing I had some experience with that because I know I would be freaked out in Colorado if I hadn't had a little taste of the good skating.  (Thanks Tammy!  I love you!  Wish you were here.)  This competition is just to see where I'm at and see what we need to work on.  I'm excited though.  It will be alot of fun no matter what.  I am only doing one program.

Well, gotta go shower.  My sunburn is killing me.    Mom is going to put some stuff on my shoulders and then I'm going to relax tonight.  I wanted to go swimming, but I'm not sure if I will or not.  Maybe I"ll wait until tomorrow.

Talk with ya later,

Sarah

This has been the first week where I have really been doing the summer program full out.  It is so much fun!  I'm also running track alot and I love that too.  Today I skated from 8:15 am with a footwork and edges type class and then freestyle sessions until getting ready for the off ice class at 11:45 am.  The off ice class was jazz dance today.  That is just the funnest class.  And it is packed.  After the off ice class, I went home and had something to eat for lunch and then got ready to go back to the ice for my lesson.  And guess what?  My coach put my new music on....it is beautiful!  And it's very balletic.  I guess he is going to try and get me to be more of a ballerina on ice.  But, you should see him skate....he is so awesome!  He just makes up this program like nothing and it is so beautiful and it has so much feeling.  I hope I can skate like that someday.  If I could learn this program the way he wants it to look, it could be so pretty.  Anyway, the first part is very slow and pretty, actually has kind of a sad feel to it and then it gets upbeat, happy and fast....and I mean FAST!  It is really going to be a challenge for me, but I love it!  I am suppose to do a competition in Colorado on Aug. 3-9th.  It is going to be really tough but the goal is to see where I am at and what I need to do.  The competition is called the Colorado Championships and it is in Arvada, Colorado....a suburb of Denver.  I can hardly wait!   It is all so exciting.  I just love having such a schedule of skating.  I wish I could do it all year that way.  I hope my coach never gives up on me!

Today I am also going to have track practice.  This weekend is a meet and it should be a fun one.  It is in Pawnee City and they are also having a festival, as if a track meet isn't enough.  There is going to be all kinds of games and food.  I'm running the 100, 200 and 400.  I'm really just running for fun....but....Wish me luck!   Hopefully I'll bring home some ribbons.  I"ll let ya know.

Well, better go because I have to get to track.  Tonight I'm going to bed early because I have a lesson at 7 am and then am skating all day again!  YEA!

Love ya all...

Sarah

June 8, 2003

Hi everybody!  Can you believe it is June already?  And guess what?  We have been wearing sweaters, sweatshirts, and jackets here still.   We have been so lucky to have such cool weather.  I'm so glad!  I know most people from here are tired of it but I love every minute of it!  I hate the heat and so that is probably why I love ice skating so much.  I know it will get really hot here but at least it won't last as long as it does in Phoenix.  I have heard it has been 111 degrees already there!  Whew!

My blades need to be fixed and I can't wait to get everything going again.  The summer program has started and it's awesome!  I have been taking group ice lessons and group off ice lessons.  My favorite class is the off ice jazz dance class.   It is the best!  It's so fun!  I think everyone likes that class the best.  I have also been having some moves lessons with a lady named Sharon Sanders.  She is very nice.  I'm doing really good with them and I can hardly wait until I test again.  Now that my coach is back I don't think I keep taking lessons with her though.  That kind of makes me sad  because I like her alot.  But she was suppose to just be a substitute.  Please keep praying for us because my mom still struggles to pay for lessons and all that.    I don't know how we will pay for it this summer but we keep having faith that it will work out.  We have club dues that are needed by the end of the month plus lessons, competition fees and a new costume.  It never ends.  But, I love skating so much!

Oh, did I tell you I am also on the Cornhusker Flyers Track Club?  It is alot of fun, too.  I am running the 100, the 200 and the 400.  It's hard but I like it.  I have a meet this coming Saturday.  I've already had one meet and I got a 2nd, 3rd and 4th place.   The 2nd was in the 100, the 3rd in the 400 and the 4th in the 200.  I got ribbons....it was so cool.

Also, pray for me because I had to go to urgent care today and found out I have an ear infection.   I'm on antibiotics.  Of course I will still have to skate because that is the way my coach is.  You know....I have to be able to skate in any condition because it could be possible that I could be sick at a competition and I need to be able to function in any condition.  Sounds terrible doesn't it?  Oh well....

Well, I better get to bed.   I have to get up early tomorrow.  I have skating all day...from 8:15 am until around 1 pm and then track at 5:30 pm.  There are a couple days in the week that I skate in the morning and then also in the afternoon plus track so I am very busy.  Plus, I'm still doing some schooling.  The church kid's groups are over for the summer.  I'll write ya some more this week....but, please keep in touch by writing me notes.  I love hearing from you.

Love,

Sarah

P.S.  My mom's birthday is June 22nd...what should I get her?
