Fiesta Skate 2002 Update:

Hi everyone!  First of all I wanted to let you all know how awesome the Fiesta Skate competition was.....it was just the best!  I had more fun than I can even explain!  Let me start by saying that I didn't win my programs but I skated them better than I have before.  I had 4 axels in my "On Golden Pond" program and I landed 2 of them perfectly but fell on 2 of them.  I felt good about the program except for those two falls.  I got 6th because of that but one judge ( a national judge who was at the Olympics) gave me 4th and while I was a runner I talked with him and he told me he would have given me first place if I would have landed those other two....so that made me feel really good!  It really was fun skating.

At the competition my mom and I also had a table and sold roses and bears.  We shared a space with my friend, Johanna and her mom and dad.  They had some candy bags and stuffed animals.  All the proceeds will go to the special skaters.  It was so much fun because all the kids from Skating Club of Phoenix would come and help.  It was a great space because we also had a heater and a great view of the skating competition.

What was so great about the competition was all the people I met and some I had met from other competitions.  There was a coach there that I met last year from Los Angeles and we got to talk alot.  Her name is Cindy and she is so nice.  It was also cool that my grandpa got to come.  He has never seen me compete.  He fell in love with skating and wants to go to the Vegas competition that we plan to go to in August.
All my skating friends were there and it was so much fun to  hang out with them.

I know that I am going to keep my program "On Golden Pond".  I really like that one....it is my technical and it is a good one.  But, we are dumping "Jetson's".  I'm just not into the cartoon characters.  So, now I'm going to work really hard on my technical and decide what else I want to do.  My Braveheart program is being saved for when I'm really really good.....it is my special program.  But, I'm thinking I would like to skate to "Yellow Rose of Texas".  I did really good with my "Oklahoma" program and mom said that is my style of music.  I'd also like to skate to "Glory, Glory Halleluiah".  I love that song!  Also, my grandma thinks a Czech polka would be fun and cute.  Besides Scottish I am also Czech so maybe that would be fun.  I could wear a dress like this one that is on the Satin Spirals website. What do you think?  And give me some ideas...

It was fun having my grandpa here for a week.  He also got to see me in "Charlotte's Web" and last night he came to our church and saw me sing with my choir.  It was a great way to end the week.  He left this morning to fly back to Omaha, Nebraska.

I am really anxious to skate again....I have to wait until Thursday because I'm getting new skates and the blades are being put on the new ones and they are also being water proofed, etc.  I will be working on my preliminary moves this month for the test on June 1st and also working on my doubles.  But, I just want to skate.....I can't wait!  This competition really motivated me even more and I want to work harder than ever!  The next competition won't be until August when we go to Vegas again.  I'll be taking jumps, spins and stroking classes this summer and working on basically everything!  I'd love to go to a skating camp but I know mom doesn't have the money.

Well, better go for now....I think I'm running out of room on my site so I'll have to make some changes....you all will just have to check out the whole site over the next week and then I'll take some stuff out so I can put new things  on it.  I have some pictures I want to put on that you are going to love so keep checking back because I'll be adding them soon.

Love ya,

Sarah

P.S.  For more info on the competition just go to:

Check out this picture of Tommy's daughter, Tasha, when she was a baby.  Tommy Allen is one of the coaches at our rink and he used to skate in Holiday on Ice.  He is really cool and also an awesome coach....he used to coach Tammy, my coach.  Anyway, isn't she cute?

Special Olympians:

I just love this quote the Special Olympians say, "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."  Isn't that cool?

I have to say that the best program of the entire competition was performed by the special skaters....by Michael and his pairs partner ( I don't remember her name).  Anyway, it was so beautiful!  Everyone was in tears.  They were better than any pairs skaters I have ever seen because they were romantic in their skating and it was so emotional.  I know Tammy was in tears, too.  They should have won an award for their performance of that program.

Misc.

The Fiesta Skate competition was so cool....you should have seen it....Oceanside was like a mall with a rink in the middle.  There were so many stores set up that it was like you were at a mall.  Kelly had a huge set up of dresses and other cool things.  I went there over and over.  There was also the hair braiding lady and her tent (I had my hair done there), and another couple tents of people and their stuff....embroidered towels and blankets and stuff like that.  Haley Stoffet's parents just started an embroidery business for towels and blankets, etc.  And then inside we had our table plus there was Laurie Kramer's table of shirts, sweatshirts and the skater shorts.  I got a pair of light blue skater shorts.  I just love them.  I wore them almost every day at the competition.  And then there was Renee Mullins' jewelry...the beautiful crystal bracelets and necklaces. I love her stuff.   Plus there was the poster guy who took pictures of us skating in our programs and we would pick out what we liked and he put them on a poster.   And then there was the video guy and also another picture guy.

Angie Valichnac ran the food room that was for coaches, judges and vendors and the food was awesome.  Kids couldn't go in but the moms could and my mom would bring out the yummy food for me to eat.  Every morning there were bagels, cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, hot chocolate, etc. and then there were snacks all day long.  The lunches were huge and dinners were the best.  Lasagna one night, barbeque one night, mexican one night and I can't remember it all.  Anyway, Angie is always so good at the food and always feeds everyone better than at any other competition I've been to.  She is good at getting people to bring in food, too.  Everyone helps out at this competition.  I was a runner and that was so fun!  My mom worked registration  besides doing our table.  The whole competition was great!

Anyway, if I think of anything else I'll add it to the page.

 Love,
                             Sarah
