About Moonbase Alpha
1) This SIM is based on situations in the television series "Space: 1999," as they were depicted in Year One. Our story begins five months after the events in the episode "The Testament Of Arkadia" with the episode"Architect of Horror."
2) Commander John Koenig, Dr. Helena Russell, and Professor Victor Bergman--the three main stays of the series--are considered public domain. In other words, any artist, or guest artist may use them at any time, but no individual can lay claim to them as 'their' character.
3) Any other character can be played, providing they are not taken by another writer. These characters DO include names of Alphans seen on season 2 with the exceptions of Maya and Tony Verdeschi (deceased in "Architect of Horror"). The assumption is that Alphans named in s2 would have already been on MBA during s1, just unseen. In this version of Space: 1999, season 2 never happened; therefore, no encounter with Psychon and no Maya.
4) New characters are always welcome, even though they may not have been a part of the televised series. Please inform the managers your suggestion for a character including brief character biography prior to posting as that character. Alien characters in the context of becoming residents of Moonbase Alpha are NOT permitted; in this reality, the Alphans survive by their wits.
5) Ask for permission before you play a character played by another artist.
6) All story ideas are welcome. There will certainly be times when two different episodes are running concurrently, but for reasons of coherency, be sure to include the title of the story you are working on in your posting.
7) Since many aspects of this SIM overlap the novel writing form, the site has been labled "M" for MATURE. Profanity, and sexual situations are permitted, but please be stylish in your use of these devices. If children access the group, parental discretion is advised. Pornography, of course, is NOT permitted. Those who post pornographic messages, files, photos and links to pornographic sites WILL automatically be banned from the group.
8) Re-read Rule #7.
9) In the universe of "Space: 1999," death is a fact of life. Characters can, and do die. If you decide to kill a character off, make sure the individual is your character. Characters belonging to the Command Staff include the following: John Koenig, Helena Russell, Paul Morrow, Sandra Benes, Alan Carter, Victor Bergman, Benjamin Ouma and Angelina Verdeschi Carter. These characters CAN NOT be killed off, unless it has been discussed by the group first.
10) This SIM deals with two different types of story evolution--original, and revamped. Original stories are born of individual character interaction (i.e. "The Architect Of Horror"). An artist is encouraged to jump in any where. A revamped story is more structured, and planned (i.e."War Games"). In revamping an already existing story, the beginning, and the outcome may be determined, but certainly, the middle portion is not.
11) Please use the OT (other topic) designation when addressing issues unrelated to the story.
12) Please remember that if you choose to play one of the open Command staff characters as your primary character to try checking your email daily. These characters will have the most interaction and if you have choosen one of them, keep in mind that not responding in a timely manner will slow the progress of the primary episode. If a "response" from a character is not received within 48 hours, the managers reserve the right to respond for that character. We realize that our "alternate earth personas" (ie, real life) takes priority. Please inform the managers if you will be away from the SIM for any length of time (vacations, etc).
13) If you are having exclusively back and forth conversations with another artist, try to create joint posts when possible. Generally, this means email responses between the individuals until the "conversation" is complete, then posting the discussion on the main board. Joint posts are actually quite fun to do!! Please ask if you have any questions.
14) Hostile posts towards another artist will not be tolerated FOR ANY REASON. Nasty-Grams left on the open message board will be deleted by one of the managers, and the perpetrator will be subject to EXPULSION from the SIM. If you can't treat others like human beings, we don't want you.
15) Thou shalt not edit another artist's posts.  No matter how mighty you may feel your literary abilities are, tampering with another writers's work is strictly vorboten.  If another artist asks you for an opinion about a post, by all means, be candid--however if you're an Alexander, The Great type who feels everyone could benefit from your vast, Lester Del Rey store of knowledge, go find another SIM or expect to find your pushy tushy' relegated to the high status of 'constant reader.'  You dig where I'm coming from, cool cat?
16) HAVE FUN--that's the reason why we're here.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
