UNEARTHLY SUMMATION

One of the prices payed by the Pharaoh of Egypt for not releasing the tribes of Israel from his land was the death of Egypt's first born sons. After this act of revenge, the Lord claimed as a payment, the first born of the children of Israel. It was after the Israelites had been led out of Egypt, and of their later laps into Idolatry at the foot of Mount Sinai, that the thirteenth tribe was finally named and separated from the rest of the tribes.

"I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the first born that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine." Numbers 3,12.

"Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD [for] an offering of the children of Israel, that they may execute the service of the LORD." Numbers 8,11.

"Thou shalt set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them [for] an offering unto the LORD." Numbers 8,13.

"Thou shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine." Numbers 8,14.

This ‘Offering’ of the Levites to God instead of the first born of all the twelve tribes of Israel, seems to have been an event that was suspiciously planned well before hand. Aaron and Moses were Levite brothers, if God had chosen the first born of the twelve tribes to join them, then Moses along with Aaron and his sons would have been a high priesthood of Levite stock, with the first born of the twelve tribes joining them. It would seem this was not the way God wanted the thirteenth tribe to be. Did God claim the first born of the twelve tribes before the Exodus in order to use them as a bargaining tool, and for exchanging them later in the desert for the whole tribe of Levi? This thirteenth tribe I believe was not to be a mixture of all twelve tribes of Israel, but a unique tribe with all it's members having the same direct descent to Jacob and Leah's third son - Levi. Some sort of transaction took place that involved the ‘exchange’ of the tribe of Levi with that of the first born of the all the twelve tribes. This decision was supposedly made when the twelve tribes of Israel committed idolatry at the foot of mount Sinai. Aaron, at the request of the twelve tribes made a golden calf for them to worship.

When Moses came down eventually from the mount he observed the sinful state of the idolatrous tribes and proclaimed to Aaron: "What did this people do unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?" In my understanding of this event, it looks almost as if it were 'staged'. The twelve tribes being made to sin during Moses’s ‘unusually’ prolonged stay on mount Sinai, would give the excuse for the Levites to be taken instead of the first born: "Then Moses stood at the gate of the camp, and said, who is on the Lord’s side? Let him come unto me, and all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him." There are several points raised about this idolatrous event around the foot of mount Sinai:

1. The unusually prolonged stay by Moses on top of mount Sinai.

2. Aaron’s strange willingness to make a golden calf for the twelve tribes to worship during Moses’s absence.

3. Moses’s question to the tribes: "Who is on the Lord’s side, let him come unto me," with the only positive response coming from the tribe of Levi.

The whole event as mentioned looked as though it had been planned well before hand. It was almost as if the Levites were destined to become this special thirteenth tribe, and to make sure this became a reality - and to avoid suspicion from the rest of the twelve tribes about this planned decision - ‘staged events’ would be created. Below is another ‘staged event’ concerning the Levites and their unquestionable status and destiny as the thirteenth tribe:

"And the Lord spake unto Moses saying, speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon the rod. And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi. And thou shalt lay them in the Tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.

"And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom.

"And it came to pass that on the morrow, Moses went into the Tabernacle of witness; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

"And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel, and they looked, and took every man his rod.

"And the children of Israel spake unto Moses, saying, behold, we die, we perish, we all perish! Whosoever cometh any thing near unto the Tabernacle of the Lord shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?"

Numbers 17, 1.

Again, just as before, this almost looks like a ‘staged event’. You can imagine all the twelve tribes contemplating afar off in their tents as to which rod the Lord will choose. But, the choice it would seem was already made before the event was even announced. Levi again, was the chosen tribe. This upset the rest of the children of Israel, which raised their fears of being consumed with dying, and of not being allowed near the Tabernacle. This budded rod of Aaron, which represented the Levite tribe, was placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, along with the Manna and Ten Commandments as a permanent reminder of the tribe of Levi being the tribe that was to blossom as a chosen collective. Does this mean that the tribe of Levi were to ‘blossom’ into a higher state of consciousness or awareness to that of the rest of the twelve tribes of Israel - is this possibly why the rest of the tribes were concerned about being consumed with dying - their exasperation being, that they were being ‘left behind’ whilst the tribe of Levi blossomed as the thirteenth tribe?

When discussing 'staged events' in connection with the tribe of Levi, the 'fourty years' of the Exodus seems to be yet another such scenario. Because of the Idolatry, the fourty years of wandering through the desert was meant to be the punishment period that the twelve tribes were to endure, but I suspect this fourty year punishment period was to hide a more deeper secret and purpose - a secret and purpose concerning the Levite tribe. The activities of the ‘cloud’ that accompanied and guided the thirteen tribes of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land was very peculiar. It is interesting to read that once the Tabernacle was set-up after many hours of wandering in the desert, the 'cloud' would descend and cover it completely. When it was time to continue the journey, the cloud would ascend from the Tabernacle and continue with it’s guidance of the tribes through the desert. When the cloud was resting on the Tabernacle it would remain so sometimes for a day, month or even a year at a time!

What could have been going on for all this period of time within the Tabernacle? This must have been such a peculiar sight for the twelve tribes of Israel that were encamped around the Tabernacle afar off! The tribe of Levi on the other hand were always to be at close quarters to the Tabernacle, suggesting that they were very much a part of the strange events taking place in and around the Tabernacle at that time - events such as angels being reported at it's entrance and speaking with Moses and Aaron! The Levites were the soul bearers of the Tabernacle, and would carry it well ahead of the rest of the twelve tribes - in fact the Levites were so far in front that they would have appeared as a 'dot' on the horizon to the rest of the Israelites behind them. The encampment of the twelve tribes when they were at rest would resemble that of a circle configuration, with the tribe of Levi occupying the central position - the circle around the dot.

The ‘Ark of the Covenant’, which was placed inside the Tabernacle when at rest, is a very interesting object indeed. It's purpose seemingly was to be a communication device that the Levite priesthood was to use in their communication with the mysterious being that guided them. The Ark, a wooden chest, was made of acacia or shittim wood. It measured about 43 inches long, and about 27 inches both high and wide. It had two gold rings fastened on each side through which poles were inserted to carry it. The poles were to remain in the rings at all times. The lid on the top of the Ark or chest was called the ‘atonement cover’, or ‘mercy seat’. On top of it were two carved cherubim at either side, with their wings spread upward, overshadowing the cover or lid of the Ark until their wing tips were close if not touching one another’s. (Exodus 25,10-22). It is in between the wings of the cherubim and above the mercy seat that God would ‘appear’ and communicate to the Levite priesthood (Exodus 25, 22). It was said that the two stone tablets with the Ten Commandments written on them were placed in the Ark or chest, along with the Manna and rod of Aaron - I rather suspect that there were more in the chest than just these three items. Perhaps there was something else in the Ark - something that had special energies that was capable of acting like a transmitter, not only of sound, but of visions also and acting something akin to a ‘projector’. The stone pillow that Jacob rested his head on, and which may have resulted in the vision of the ‘angels descending and ascending a ladder’, could have been placed in the Ark - it was after all given special honour after Jacob’s vision. Did this stone have particular energies that gave it a transmitter quality, and was able to communicate and create a vision within the mind of Jacob?
