WHAT THE CLUB GETS UP TO IN A TYPICAL YEAR
To give you an idea of the benefits of being a club member
here are just some of the activities the club gets up to in a typical year
JANUARY
The 1st group of students for the new year start the SCUBA training,
Exam’s and open water assessments organized for students that started in the previous year
A skittles/social evening organized
FEBRUARY
The training of the new student progressing well,
Club diver and dive leader lectures started
Pool/darts social evening organized
MARCH
The new group of student sit exams and open water assessments
Open water instructor course run by the SAA
Bowling/social evening organized
APRIL
As the seasons change for the better the pool training comes to an end and the club turns to open water dive sites, in the 1st sea dive of the year a group of 17 including 4 new student divers enjoyed beautiful weather as they dived a number of locations in the Torbay area, local fishermen called upon two members to help recover a trapped lobster pots and received a huge crab as a reward.
MAY
Stourport Divers joined forces with Redditch divers to provide “safety river cover” for the charity fund raising raft race event organized by “The Lions group”, later in the month a group of 8 members enjoyed an exciting bank holiday weekend to Plymouth, dives included The “James Egan Layne” and a new wreck/artificial reef the HMS Scylla that was deliberately sunk in Whitesands bay earlier this year.
JUNE
At the beginning of the month a group of 18 took a week long dive holiday to Cornwall, members enjoyed fabulous weather as they used the fully equipped club dive boat to run shuttle trips to wrecks and reefs in the Penzance, Lamorna cove and Lands end area, later in the month the club booked a hard boat weekend to dive wrecks around the Weymouth area
JULY
With another week long dive holiday to St Abbs planed for later in the month a group of 10 decided to add a late addition to the club calendar and take a weekend to Hope Cove in Devon, the less than perfect weather conditions provided an exhilarating ride as members used the club boat to bravely (but safely) dive the Bigbury Bay area,
A skittles evening was also organized within the month
AUGUST
Stourport Divers used two club boats to help provide “Safety River cover” for the Stourport Regatta,
On the second chartered hard boat weekend of the year once again we enjoyed beautiful weather as we dived exciting locations in the Isle of Wight area, dives included the U boat “U1195” which was responsible for the sinking of the liberty ship “James Egan Layne” which the club dove earlier in the year. The last bank holiday weekend of the year found the club at West Bay diving reefs and wrecks in the Lyme Bay area
SEPTEMBER
A 2nd group of students for 2004 start the SCUBA and snorkeling course’s,
Stourport Divers used two club boats to help provide “Safety River cover” for the Stourport carnival.
As the UK weather turns cold and windy members took a 2 week family/sight seeing/dive holiday to Tenerife, while some family members soaked up the sun others explored the Island and others opted to dive the warm Atlantic ocean waters, dives included a wreck dive at Los Christianos, a sting ray feeding station at Los Gigantis and reefs around the west coast, while underwater a variety of wildlife like Octopus, Barracuda and White eyed Moray Eels were observed and photographed, divers were also rewarded with displays of Dolphins on route to and return from dive sites
OCTOBER
The training of the 2nd group of student progressed well,
Certificates are awarded to those completing the snorkel course
Club diver and dive leader and dive supervisor lectures are underway
Underwater photography course run by the SAA
NOVEMBER
The training of the 2nd group of new student still progressing well with some student passing their pool assessment early,
Bonfire/fireworks/disco evening organized
A group of members took a 2 week sightseeing/diving holiday to Jordan, besides visiting world famous site such as Petra, Wadi Rum and The Dead Sea we dived many location in the Gulf of Aqaba, wreck dives included The Cedar Pride which was scuttled in 1985 on direction of King Hussain and the then Prince Abdullah as a haven for sea life, reefs included Kiwi, Rainbow and The Seven Sisters where many exotic fish were seen and photographed

DECEMBER
