"Frequently asked Questions"

How do I join?

Email me "John" on (crmjhn@aol.com) and arrange to come to the pool one Sunday afternoon or to one of our monthly club meetings. You can get all the information and forms you need to join when we meet or you can download forms from the documents section of this site

Do I need to be very fit or a strong swimmer?
No you don't! (You should see some of us!) If you can swim 8 lengths of a standard swimming pool (no hurry) duck dive a few times and tread water for 1 Min. your fit enough :-)

When does your next course start?

We generally train on Sunday afternoons during the winter months with courses starting in Sept. & Jan. but please feel free to contact us at any time, we may be able to fit you in!

I cannot make Sunday afternoons,
Sometimes we can offer training on Wednesday evenings, please ask. If you can’t make either then we can't help you (Shame!)
You can find details of other SAA clubs (who train on different days) on the SAA web site (click here to visit the SAA web site)

I wear glasses / contact lenses can I still dive?

Yes! There are two options, you can wear contact lenses whilst diving (I use daily disposable) or have prescription lenses fitted to your mask.

Who do I contact about Try-a-Dives, Try-a-Dive vouchers & snorkelling?

Me "John" (crmjhn@aol.com) I will answer any questions you have and if nessessary pass your details onto the relevant club members.

I want to learn with PADI!
Are you sure??? Have you see our "Cheaper than Padi page???
if you have money to burn then here is a link to the PADI web site
www.padi.com, Please remember, if you gain a padi qualification we are still happy to offer you the help & support that only a local club can provide.

I’m already a SAA, BSAC or PADI qualified diver,

Great!!! Email me "John" (crmjhn@aol.com) and arrange a time to meet the club. We will answer any of your questions and you will have the opportunity to see if we are the kind of club you are looking for.

Is the SAA internationally recognized?

Yes! Our members have been diving around the world for many years and we have no problems with Dive centers recognizing our SAA & CMAS qualifications. As an SAA diver you may even be treated with some awe and greater respect!!! but don't worry, we’re not as tough as some PADI divers think we are!

Do I need to come every week?

No! while we like to see some dedication to complete the course in 12 weeks the training program is flexible to work around your availabilities and current commitments.

Do I need any kit to start?
No! for the first week you just need to bring your swimming costume, a towel and a 20p coin for the lockers (refunded),

Do you provide kit while I learn?
Yes! We lend you scuba equipment free of charge during your pool sessions but you will be advised to buy your own mask, fins & snorkel asap. Don't worry, we will always offer advice on what, when & where to buy equipment!

Do you hire kit?

No we don't, but, as a member you entitled to borrow certain club equipment free of charge, other dive kit can be hired from local dive shops and dive sites,

Is there much of a social aspect to the club?

Oh yes! Besides the dive trips and dive holidays the club can be found at "The Old Beams" pub after each pool sessions, we have monthly meetings at "The Rock Tavern" and we organize many of other social events through out the year.
