Stealing Is A Crime - Do Not Copy & Paste

Escape Plan

Escape el Plan

  • Get an extra set of car keys and hide them.
  • Start a hidden emergency fund, even if its only one or two dollars stashed away per week.
  • A suitcase with a couple changes of clothes for you and your children.  Leave it with a trusted friend or hide it where your partner will not look.  Include your marriage license and birth certificates and social security cards for everyone who will leave with you.
  • If packing a suitcase is not possible, fill a dresser drawer or a box with what you may need.  Don't overpack.  It may tip your abusive partner off.
  • Develop a plan for calling for help.  Use the police in an emergency.  You can explain to your children about dialing 911.  Tell them they can run to a neighbor's house if they can't get to a phone.  If you trust one of your neighbors, you may develop a signal system so they know you need help.
  • Know that it is important to forgive yourself and be ready to take assertive action to protect yourself and your children now.
