My Beautiful Drummond A dog of a lifetime
Within these pages, limitations of space unfortunately allow for an all too brief account of the historical evolution of the dog we now know as the Great Dane, but I will try to present an overview of the breed from it's earliest chronicled evidence to the dog of reliable characteristics we today value. He has not however, come this far without trial and change. Formed and reformed at the whim of many a master, with a warrior's stance he marched into battle two thousand years BC. He entertained the masses in Rome with his fiercesome courage and delighted children in German circus tents. He brought down quarry for Royalty on the fields of Europe and guarded palaces and peasants with equal regard. And when the sunset casts it's golden glow upon his regal face, he lies beside a fireplace warm, while a smallgirl sleeps, her head upon his neck. He has been by man's side from the beginning and is there still. He has not faltered - though we have oft failed him. Lucky indeed are those who can say they have known a dog such as this - the truly great.......
GREAT DANE
PLEASE NOTE
This site was previously at Earthlink but is now on MSN. The old site is no longer in existence. In this new site I have added more photos and rare old paintings, which you might not have seen before. If you have enjoyed your visit here, please do place this new url in your “Favourites” so you might visit us again. MSN has very heavy traffic and is also are constantly working or upgrading their servers, so some pages and pictures might be a little slow to load - this site being "extremely" graphically intensive. Please do however, be patient, for I think it will be worth your while. If by chance a picture does not load on your screen, just right click on your mouse and then click on “Show Picture” and it will no doubt magically appear. This site is an ongoing project with new photos and pictures added as I find them or feel they might be of interest. So please do “refresh” your browser each time you visit to enable you to view the updates. There are hundreds of pictures on this site for your pleasure. While I personally own copies of most of them, if you happen to own the "copyright" to any of them and I have not given you credit, please do let me know and I will gladly give you full credit or remove them if that is your wish.
Those of us who make our own websites, put a tremendous amount of time, work and effort into them. If you wish to grab a photo, background or border from this site, please do have the courtesy to ask first.
