It has been great to read and hear other peoples experience.  Aftertwo years of hard slog, some hair pulling (Bev likes that) we finally move over on the 10th August. That was the "Royal we" by the way. Hubby (thats me) has a cushy number in Afghanistan so he is leaving his good lady wife to get started.  I will retire again this year I think and we hope to run our other two villas as a buisness.

We have mailed three garden people of late offering a massive job, no reply from one!!!  Oh well they must all be busy or not want the buisness?

Anyway when we settle in we will invite everyone and I mean everyone to our place for a massive knees up. The beer is on us.

Hope to meet others on the board who want to enjoy life, listen to me rattling on about my beloved Stockport County and Bev will talk horses until she gets her own again.

Myself and wife Christine are currently in the process of buying a villa in Alsancak nr to what was the Doslar restaurant. Iam 39 yrs of age I worked for the MOD for the past 11yrs and now work for the UKAEA. Christine is a housewife having recently sold her florist shop. We have a 8 yr old son Elliott and we can't  wait for the sale to go through .I will be looking to you all for advice information and experience for when we furnish & look to have other work done.  

We are have had  our last homebuilt in Ozankoy and will retire to there by June 07 at the very latest .  Both of us are ex-RAF and now MOD employed.    And now the update:   You can see there are now Three of us, my sister has made up her mind so it was a good job we built with her in mind.   Makes sense as it is all the family we have and it means that we bring a fully quallified Surgical Nurse along to look after us as we grow old!!!   Mind, Trish is older than us and the situation may be reversed.    I run a major IT network and support department and Cec looks after all the complaints about Aeronautical Engineering Training.   Both of us are ex-communications people who still retain the second language of Morse Code.   Married now for 20 years, both second time and only two daughters from early days who are now over 30 and totaly independent - until we get there of course.   Not rich or posh just normal people with manners who have hade enough of the UK style of living.   Planning to "Blend In" with the local Turkish community and trying hard to learn the language.   Future plans:  Live life as it comes, enjoy the relaxation, stay out of lifes political game, help those we can when we can, maybe take up radio ham - maybe not.   We can both turn our hands to just about anything and are willing to try the lot.   Major plan for me is to cook superb meals for any visitors.   Major plan for Cec is to let me do it - shrewd cookie!!

hello everyone,  in the last few weeks we have taken great interest in your pages as hopefully we will be moving out to the TRNC in sept/oct if our house is ready,  we have picked up some usefull information from the letters.               If anyone has any information on the following we would be gratefull (probably buy you a pint) we are thinking of bbringing our transit type van over with our many personal items as shipping seems very expensive , has anyone done the same or does anyone know of any possible problems.  Secondly does anyone know of the work situation for plumbing / heating engineers as Iworld be looking for 2/3 days a week to work. I work for a mobile phone Company and Richard is an LGV driver.  Bought a plot of land East of Girne in Esentepe and hope to retire out there in four or five years time.  We have five grandchildren so think it might work out cheaper to live abroad!

We are buying a place in Alagadi overlooking Turtle beach, this should be ready in about 12 months, we intend to retire there in about 6 years.

I worked on the railway's as a fireman/secondman from 64 to 71 and then joined the army and left after 22 years and now i'm a prison officer .

Trish works as a Health Care Assistent after doing various jobs mainly office work. 

 

SPOOKY OR  WHAT:-  when I opened this link to add my details to the site and saw the nickname allocated to me I thought it quite appropiate as my trade in the army was as a "Mover" (Movement Controller).

We are ex-Army people who have had 2nd careers in civvy street, Jeff in Plant & Construction and Anne in the Charity world.  We have a few years to push yet but are having our home in the sun built near Karsiyaka.  Should be ready this summer (04) and can't wait to start getting to know you all.

         

 We are in the process of buying a house near Ozankoy, to hopefully retire to in November 04. We are going out in March to check progress and our son is going in April to look for business opportunities, cos he says he would miss us too much to stay at home!! We are (soon retiring) convenience store owners. We would love to hear from anyone moving to TRNC who is FUN! No fogies or snobs need email us! Anyone else will be most welcome.

Hi All, I am a retired firefighter, so therefore jack of all trades master of none.

Aint this just a great site!

 

My girlfriend Katrina is 41 and a Qualified Book keeper and I'm an Electrician by trade (General Manager at the moment for Electrical Contracting Company). We've both been to Turkey before but fell in love with TRNC in August 2003 for its simplicity and genuine people - oh and the weather.

 

We're presently waiting, and waiting and waiting for our "Permit to Buy". We have found the land we would like in Chatalkoy and are friends with a local Turkish Builder whom has been a resident of the TRNC since 74 - hopefully he will still be around by the time we get our approval !

 

Weve had plent of Britain's poor weather, excesive taxes and crumbling National Health System and are wanting a better life in a place that naturally puts a smile on your face.

 

We shall be regular visitors to this site as we have found it the best "One Stop Shop" and look forward to any correspondence from all you like minded people.

Off to TRNC on the 4 Apr hopefully to find and buy our place in the sun.   Both Jaz and I are Army and have been for a long time. Bothserved in the South for a few years too.. I finish in May but will still work for the MOD till Jaz has finished in about 5 years.   I have a 14 year old Son Ben and a Springer called Jez (I still get Jaz and Jez mixed up!!).   Took up Microlight Flying (Flexiwing) and currently working towards my licence.   I have found this site very very useful, thanks to everone..

I moved to Cyprus about 6 months ago.  It seems like everyone from my home town of WORTHING is following each other.  My friend moved here first, then i followed, and now some more friends are moving over!  But this all started with a holiday last July!

 

I left my job in England and decided that i would give myself a three month trial out here to see if i would get on. 6 months later.......

 

Now i cant imagine being anywhere else!!

 

I have been lucky enough to be able to start up my own business, im a property manager and am also branching out into the estate agency side as well.  I feel like i have got my chance to make a career for myself as there are so many options and paths for people to persue out here.  Its also nice to have a place like these message boards to chat with fellow Brits that have also taken the chance or are thinking of taking it!

I have two wonderful sons Paul and Bernard, Paul is in his last year at school A levels, <st1:City><st1:place>Bern</st1:place></st1:City> has just completed his first year at university studying law.

Currently I run my own building company in Hertfordshire. We work on various projects from complete house builds to extensions and garden landscape construction. We are considering relocation to <st1:place>North Cyprus</st1:place>; the property market looks as if it is Booming! and who hasent had enough of this country, CRIME, TAX, COST OF LIVING (if you can call it that) etc etc etc

And what more could any one want lots of work, people that are friendly and have respect for each other and their property and dont forget sun every day.<o:p> </o:p>

Deb loves her pets; we have 4 Springer Spaniels, Pip, Maggie, Moley and Beef Cake, (don’t ask). She used to love horse riding but following an injury to her back she cannot do this any more.

 

We cant wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                      Our house is due for completion in 4 months and we are planning to spend a lot of time in TRNC. At the moment there  are no full time plans - but who knows?

Present situation  is that Dot does the most of the work (Bed & Breakfast) and I am a Director of a Building Company in England although we are supposed to be enjoying early retirement. Background varied but hopefully we've learnt a few things in our time. Present interests include Fying, Horse and Dog Racing (as much use as a chocolate fire guard in the TRNC) meeting friends and generally taking it easy.

If you are in the Karsiyaka area give us a call (but not yet) and you will be more than welcome to join us for a drink and a chat.

We are moving to the TRNC shortly (renting initially with a view to purchasing)

Our dream is torun a bar there as we both have extensive experience in the pub and entertainment industry. (Tim is a Karaoke compere - as for me, I can't hit a note !!)

 

Tim is 45 and I am 39 and we will be dragging two 15 year old girls with us.

Can anyone offer any advice on schooling and career opportunities for them?

 

We hope to communicate with you all prior to our move - it really would be nice to meet ex-pats.  My parents have just purchased a new build in Catalkoy which will be ready in February 2005.
