Match Reports 07/08

Newcomers Steeple Ashton Rangers had enough chances in the first half against Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club to have won they game but all they had to show for their efforts was a goal from Jack Holdway who slotted the ball home after wriggling around two defenders.

Trowbridge started the second half the brighter of the two teams and when Ashton had a penalty appeal waved away after Dan Ford was fouled in the area, they had Dave Chamberlain booked for dissent.

Chamberlain, who had been given the chance to calm down by the ref, continued his rant and eventually saw what looked to be a straight red.

His dismissal saw Ashton change shape and against the run of play they added a second when Holdway converted a Lee Mounty cross.

Trowbridge reacted to Ashton's second goal by throwing an extra man up front which worked as a long piercing pass saw Chris Rawlings find himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and he calmly slotted the ball past Neil Taylor.

The goal lifted the spirits of the Town and with five minutes to go Simon Hussey's corner was punched out by Taylor only for Hussey to strike a shot which seemed to take Ashton and Taylor by surprise and end up in the back of the net to give Trowbridge a well deserved point.

It may have been a new look Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club who travelled to Calne to face their nemesis of the past two campaigns, North Star B, but the result was the same as the Town slumped to a fifth straight loss at the hands of the Priestly Grove club. Shane Minnis (North Star) and Mel Messaoud (Trowbridge Town SC) traded first half goals before the Star cut loose in the second half to win 4-1. Mark Dolman, who started in goal for the Star, was replaced by Jeremy Spruce and the switch seemed to work as Dolman put the Star ahead and another couple of goals from Dan Allison sent the Town back to West Wiltshire empty handed yet again

Fourth division newcomers The Three Crowns United defeated Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 4-0 but had it not been for a series of fine saves from the Town’s keeper Robbie Newton the victory would have been a lot more emphatic. A first half double from Mike Cassidy set United on their way and two further goals from Kelvin Page in the second half wrapped up United’s win, Page missed out on a hat trick when with keeper Newton beaten his shot cannoned off the bar

Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club were hammered 11-0 by Inter Sandgate.

A great all round team performance from Trowbridge Town Supporters Club might not have been enough to give them a victory over Corsham Centre B but manager Kevin Williams was impressed with their improvement from last Sunday which saw them lose 11-0 in the Wilts Sunday Cup and although Williams side lost 3-1, he was pleased with the second half display from his side who were trailing 3-0 at the break. The Supporters Club should have been two goals to the good before the Centre who took 25 minutes to find a crack in a their stubborn defence scored through Kevin Hodgkinson, further first half goals from Warren Jones and Chaz Young put the Centre in command. The Supporters Club had the better of the second half and with superior finishing should have added to Chris Penelhum’s goal which turned out only to be a consolation rather than the goal which they hoped would inspire them to a great fight back. The win sees the Centre move into second spot from last weeks fourth place

For a second week running Trowbridge Town Supporters Club have showed a great improvement on their early season form, but like last week they suffered a 3-1 defeat. Fourth division Trowbridge hosted second division Audley FC who gave a debut to the returning Trevor Whichello who has taken over the goal keeping duties from the injuries Shane Mansfield. Trowbridge welcomed back Nick Buckle and gave a start to Mohammed Zekri and the two players combined for Zekri to score the Town’s consolation after Chris Yeo, Kieren Smith and Dave Nolan who scored from an assist from keeper Whichello had scored to put the Audley in charge. However had Trowbridge taken a few more of their chances they might have taken the game to extra time. The town’s manager Kevin Williams was impressed with the way his team battled for everything and he was pleased with the performance of central defender Steve Russell who had a great game at the back

Chippenham United RAOB claimed their fifth stalemate in seven matches, on this occasion it was Trowbridge Town Supporters Club who were unable to break down a United side who hit back from being a goal down to lead 2-1 before a late strike from Kevin Williams team earned them a point from a 2-2 draw. Trowbridge should have been out of sight by the interval but they only had Paul Matthews superb curling free kick on 23 minutes to show for their efforts. Goals from Will Symans and Robbie Walker put United into a 2-1 lead and when Trowbridge had a Simon Hussey effort ruled out for offside it was looking as if United would go on to win, but with the clock running down, Nick Buckle fired home from 12 yards to earned Trowbridge their 2-2 draw, which should have really been a win especially as their guests finished with none players having had, goal keeper Stuart Davis and Eddie Baldwin sent off

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club were at a lost to explain how they suffered a 5-1 defeat away at Corsham United who in spite of having the better of the first half were second best in the second half but scored three goals in the last five minutes to run out 5-1 winners with a result which was not a far reflection on the match. Joe Pritchard maintain his record of scoring in every league match so far when he put Corsham one up and before the break Dominic Reed scored his first of three when he made it 2-0. Trowbridge gave a debut to Nigel Penelhum and it was the substitute who fashioned a way back into the game for his team when he hit the target to give them a way back into the game. The goal seemed to breath new life into the Trowbridge side and they started to get on top but were unable to find an equaliser and with five minutes left they press the self-destruct button as United sunk them with three late goals. Dominic Reed made it 3-1 before Simon Jones put through his own goal to hand the points to Corsham but their was still time left for Corsham to add a fifth which went to Dominic Reed who completed his hat trick right on the final whistle

Basement side AFC Lyneham are still waiting to break their duck for the season after they were beaten 9-0 away at Trowbridge Town Supporters Club, who if this result is anything to go believe that are back in business and if that is the case they should win their next two matches which are against Kings Arms (Market Lavington) and Somerford FC. Trowbridge scored the nine goals but could have had double that amount had it not been for the woodwork which denied them on nine occasions. Gavin Target scored a hat trick in his first game back at the club, Nigel Penelhum and Nick Buckle both scored doubles, James Harman scored his first goal of the season and Andy Anderson bagged his first goal for the club to make up the nine.

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club secured back-to-back victories after they defeated Kings Arms (Market Lavington) 4-2, the Kingers started with nine players and quickly fell three goals behind to strikes from Paul Matthews, Nick Buckle and Gavin Targett. The Kings Arms eventually got up to full strength and conceded a fourth that was scored by Chris Penelhum. Trowbridge led 4-0 at the interval and looked as if they would add further goals in the second period, but it was the Kings Arms who came out on top in the second 45 minutes, they replaced their first half keeper with Rob Ford who was outstanding between the posts and goals from Mark Torr and Wayne Johnson got them within touching distance of the supporters’ club which will make them think that had they started the game with 11 players they could have won the game

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club were denied a third successive victory by Somerford FC who came from a goal down to win 3-1. Somerford who have been in great form recently fell behind to a Paul Matthews goal and once the supporters’ club had made the second half breakthrough they would have been expecting to push on and score more goals, but it wasn’t the case as Somerford hit back with Scott Hatton levelling matters. Wayne Burry who has been in red hot form lately for Somerford gave them the lead before Hatton netted his second of the contest and Somerford’s third. Hatton and Burry may have scored the goals for the winners but it was goalkeeper Alan Tucker who was the hero as he produced a string of fine saves to deny the supporters’ club on many occasions in the first half

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club claimed one of the results of the day after beating Corsham Centre B 3-1 who started the match at Bratton with just seven players. The supporters’ had been tipped to lose the game and it was said that only a miracle would save them and the miracle arrived in the form of a car load of Centre players getting lost on the way to the pitch. The undermanned Centre side held their hosts to a goalless drawn until their other players arrived and from then on things went down hill as goals from Chris Penelhum and Nick Buckle gave the supporters’ club a two goal lead at the interval. Paul Matthews scored a third for the town with Tom Lye replying for the Centre whose loss saw them slip down to third place

TROWBRIDGE Town Supporters' Club proved that last weekend's victory over Corsham Centre B was not just a one-off.

In the past when the supporters' club have had a great win they have followed it up with a loss, but this time they recorded another praiseworthy victory, beating Wanderers 3-2.

Nick Buckle put the supporters' club into the lead after nine minutes and two minutes later Chris Penelhum fired home number two.

With 10 minutes left Andy Hill scored a second for Wanderers when he tapped home after good work from Neil Collett.

This left the supporters with an uncomfortable final 10 minutes to see out which they achieved to gain back-to-back victories that moved them into seventh place in the table

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club welcomed North Star B to their home base at Bratton, and having lost five on the trot against their Calne based nemesis they feared that their fine run of late could come to an abrupt end, but they continued to show improvement at they brushed the Star aside to claim a 5-1 victory and break the hold that their opponents seemed to have over them which in turn extended their winning run to three matches. The supporters’ club bossed the first half and lead 3-0 at the interval which could have been a lot more had it not been for the heroics of the Star keeper Dan Simpkins who produced a number of fantastic saves to keep the scoreline respectable. Nick Buckle gave the supporters’ club an early lead, Gavin Target made it 2-0 before James Harman’s stunning volley from 18 yards gave the hosts the luxury of a three goal cushion. Nick Buckle added number four ahead of Dan Allison scoring North Star’s consolation. Gavin Target who sealed the supporters’ 5-1 triumph with his seventh goal since his return to the club completed the scoring

Kevin Williams Trowbridge Town Supporters Club defeated Riverside Renegades to collect their fourth win in as many games and their sixth in seven games which has moved them into the top half of the table. Nigel Penelhum scored a hat trick for the supporters’ club before Joe Taylor pulled a goal back for the Renegades, but Gavin Target restored the supporters’ club three goal advantage, before the Renegades pulled another goal back which was again scored by Taylor who slotted home from the penalty spot. A second half strike from the Renegades player/manager Lance Davis gave his side hope of staging a remarkable fight back but although the supporters’ club were under pressure for the final 10 minutes they held out to take the honours against a Renegades sides who felt cheated by a number of what they believed to be dubious decisions from both the referee and assistant referee
