Match Reports 2 07/08

TROWBRIDGE Town Supporters' Club took their run of victories to five matches with a 3-2 home success over Old Road Tavern who felt they had been robbed of at least a share of the spoils after they had two goals ruled out.

The supporters' club took the lead after nine minutes when Nigel Penelhum scored a fortuitous goal. There was no luck about the supporters' club second which arrived three minutes later and was again scored by Penelhum.

Old Road battled their way back into the contest and they reduced the gap to the odd goal in the 31st minute when Robbie Burton netted from the penalty spot after Gary McLaughlin had fouled an Old Road player.

Gavin Target restored the supporters' club two goal cushion ten minutes into the second half, but even then Old Road wouldn't give up and they thought they had scored a second when Mark Ingles netted but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Old Road scored 20 minutes from time through Robbie Burton to set up grandstand finish but they could make another breakthrough even though they felt robbed when Ryan Tyrell's goal was ruled out to leave the final score 3-2 in favour of the hosts

Riverside Renegades have moved into second spot after they defeated Trowbridge Town Supporters Club 4-1 who had beaten them 4-3 at the start of the year and for the supporters’ club it was their first loss in six matches. Kevin Williams supporters’ side were without both influential defender Steve Russell and midfielder Nick Buckle but they should have done better with the players they had available. A neat finish from Joe Taylor saw Riverside take the lead on two minutes and a stunning second from Taylor in the 20th minutes look to have put Riverside well on top but the supporters’ club hit back two minutes later through Simon Hussey to give his team hope, but that was how the score stayed until the second period when a great solo effort from Riverside’s player/manager Lance Davis made it 3-1 and Taylor completed the scoring for the Bradford based winners with his third of the contest and the fourth of the game

Trowbridge Town Supporters Club returned to winning ways after last weeks defeat against Riverside Renegades, the supporters’ club hosted Corsham United whose 4-1 defeat was the fourth game in a row that they have failed to win and their slump in form has seen them drop from second placed down to fourth spot and unless they can recapture some form very soon what looked like being a great season for Paul Wheeler’s team is in danger of ending in disaster. Nick Buckle who missed last weeks home loss against the Riverside opened the scoring for the supporters’ club and Chris Penelhum double their lead before the break. Penelhum added his second of the game and his teams third in the second half before Joe Pritchard pulled a goal back for United. Penelhum killed of any chance of a United revival when he completed his hat trick with goal number four for the winners which gives Kevin Williams side a realistic chances of claiming a top four position come May time

Somerford 0, Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 4

OLD sparring partners Somerford and Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club met at Somerford and Kevin Williams' supporters' club side denied their hosts a fourth successive victory over them with a 4-0 triumph that saw the visitors end the hoodoo that Gary Chandler's side seemed to have over them.

The win was the supporters first over the villagers since February 2005 when they won 4-3.

After a goal-less first 45 minutes the game came to life early in the second half and within 10 minutes of the restart the supporters' club had the game won.

Nigel Penelhum scored from the penalty spot after 48 minutes to give his team the lead and two minutes later Penelhum made it 2-0. When Simon Hussey added number three in the 55th minutes the supporters' club knew that the points were won.

Hussey put the icing on the cake with his second goal of the game five minutes from time.

Wanderers 2, Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 2

THIRD-placed Wanderers and Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club, who are in fifth spot, shared four goals and the points after the two evenly matched sides fought out a 2-2 draw.

Dylan Turner put Wanderers ahead when his free kick caught the wind and sailed into the back of the supporters' club net, but they were all square before the interval when Charlie Rawlings, playing his first game in almost five months, scored his first goal since April 2006 when his neat finish made it 1-1.

Dylan Turner restored Wanderers' lead with a spectacular 20 yard drive but midway through the second half Nigel Penelhum cancelled out Turner's goal as his 11th goal of the season earned the supporters' club a share of the points

Old Road Tavern 0, Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 4

SECOND-placed Riverside Renegades were without a match, but their nearest challengers for the automatic promotion spot are now Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club who defeated Old Road Tavern 4-0.

The supporters might not have been as convincing as they could have been against the Tavern but at this stage of proceedings they will take any winning margin.

Nigel Penelhum continued his recent good form with the opening goal and his second doubled his team's lead and took his tally for the season to 13. Andy Anderson scored number three for the supporters' club when he headed home a Simon Hussey corner to give them a 3-0 half-time lead. The supporters' club netted their fourth 15 minutes from time when Penelhum completed a well deserved hat-trick.

Three Crowns United 3, Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 1

TROWBRIDGE Town Supporters' Club missed out on the opportunity to narrow the lead on the top two sides after they slumped to only their second defeat in 11 matches when they were beaten 3-1 away at The Three Crowns United whose victory extended their own winning run to five games.

Three Crowns welcomed back striker Marcus Young, who it was thought would miss the remainder of the season with a broken wrist. But Young has made a miraculous recovery and scored his team's equaliser after they had fallen behind to Chris Rawlings' 20th minute goal.

Young was in the thick of the action in the build-up to the second goal.

Young was adjudged to have been brought down in the box and the spot kick was duly dispatched by Paul Maddox to give the hosts a 2-1 interval lead.
</SCRIPT>Adie Bray scored the third and all-important goal when he fired home a Gary Robinson cross. The supporters' club had the chance to get back in the game when they were awarded a penalty, but although Nick Buckle struck an excellent spot kick, goalkeeper Steve Warner produced an outstanding save to keep it out and with the miss went any hopes that Kevin Williams's side had of getting back into the game.

The defeat means that the supporters must win all their remaining five matches and hope that other teams around them slip up if they are to have any hope of nicking an automatic promotion spot.

AFC LYNEHAM slumped TO a 5-1 loss at home to Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club who, as expected, returned to form after their defeat against Three Crowns United last weekend.

Simon Hussey opened the scoring for the supporters' club and Chris Penelhum doubled the advantage before a second from Hussey gave his team a 3-0 half-time lead.

Chris Penelhum increased the supporters' lead even further prior to Mark Adams scoring Lyneham's consolation and this was after he had a penalty brilliantly saved by keeper Robbie Newton.

Nick Buckle's first goal since the middle of February made certain that the supporters' club travelled back to West Wiltshire a very happy side.

TROWBRIDGE Town Supporters' Club and Kings Arms battled out a 1-1 draw, but the supporters' club, who used three strikers, should have had the opponents dead and buried before Gary Bridewell netted their equaliser in the 88th minute.

That wiped out Nigel Penelhum's first half strike, whose effort rebounded in off his head after Gavin Target's corner had cannoned off the post onto the back of his head and crossed the line.

For the supporters' club it might have been a case of too many cooks as their front line were falling over themselves trying to find the target

Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 2, Three Crowns United 5

THE only side who can now catch Riverside for second spot is Three Crowns United after their 5-2 triumph over Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club ended the hopes of Kevin Williams's side's chances of glory but kept their own very much alive as they followed up their 12-1 win over North Star B in midweek with a 5-2 success.

Paul Maddox led the rout against North Star with six goals, Mike Cassidy scored three and Mike Weaving, Marcus Young and Paul Dodimead were also on target.

Their win over the supporters' club stretched their unbeaten run to eight matches and it was Mike Cassidy who set them on their way when he scored inside two minutes. Paul Maddox added number two from the penalty spot after Adie Bray had been impeded.

Bray himself bagged number three and Marcus Young scored the second penalty of the morning after Kelvin Page had been bundled over in the area.

Simon Hussey scored direct from a corner to give the supporters hope of a second half revival which was ended by Young whose delightful chipped finish made it 5-1.

Gary McLaughlin scored the supporters' second which proved to be just another consolation

Chippenham United RAOB 3, Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club 2

CHIPPENHAM United RAOB heaped more misery on third -laced Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club whose 3-2 loss at Stanley Park may just have ended their hopes of finishing the season in third spot.

Martin Riddle's first goal for United gave them the lead which was wiped out by Chris Penelhum. When Gavin Targett gave the supporters' club a 2-1 lead it was looking as if Kevin Williams's side were on course to register a 12th victory of the season, but United hit back to level matters through Will Symans and it was Symans who netted the third to give his side 3-2 victory to make sure the supporters' club trip back to West Wiltshire was an unhappy one

Supporters upset the champions

With the Fourth Division title already won, Steeple Ashton Rangers chose to shuffle their pack for their final match of the season against Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club.

But may have wished they hadn't as Kevin Williams supporters ended Ashton's 16 match unbeaten run with a 3-2 victory.

Simon Hussey gave the supporters' club the lead which was doubled by one of their finds on the season, Nigel Penelhum, who put the hosts 2-0 up at the break.

Regular goalkeeper Ben King, playing up front for the day, reduced the arrears before Penelhum's second of the game saw the supporters' club regain their two goal advantage.

Steeple Ashton manager Nathan Holloway pulled a goal back for the champions who then mounted attack after attack as they searched for an equaliser but the hosts were not to be beaten again as they held out for a fine win.
