Shields

  • Adargue: A heart-shaped buckler.
  • Alberia: A shield without armorial bearings.
  • Buckler: A very small shield that fastens to the forearm, normally seen on crossbowmen, and archers as they can employ this type of shield with no hinderance to their movement or weapon use. It is also becoming highly favored by sailors in the city of Cape Pieron who find their small size quite handle with belaying ships, climbing ropes, or performing other tasks while still receiving the protection of the small shield.
  • Round Shield: Favored by the warriors and the mercenaries of the city of Orynth these shields are sturdy affairs of quality steel. Most round shields are crafted with a by armorers in the city of Orynth where demand is high. A dishing technique almost exclusive to Orynthian armorers and smiths ensures these shields are capable of taking tremendous beatings while remaining quite functional.
  • Kite Shield: The kite shield of the realms is favored by the mounted warriors of the realms. The simple yet effective design of the kite shield allows for maximum protection of the torso while also providing some measure of armor to the lower exposed legs of a mounted individual.

Shield Architecture

  • Antia: The handle of the buckler.
  • Base: The bottom third of the shield.
  • Bouche: The small corner cut into the top of the shield to accommodate the lance, not popular until later centuries.
