Hi everyone,
You'll probably hear of the term "Dance Singapore!" being used in the coming weeks, and some of you might be wondering what it's all about.
"Dance Singapore!" is simply an effort to promote Singapore dances, line-dances created by our very own Singapore choreographers. I believe we have a pool of talented choreographers out there, some producing very good works, which have been over-looked. One of the best ways to nurture and encourage these talents is for them to see that their works are being recognized, that their dances are being taught during class and played at jams. It will serve as a great source of motivation for them to continually strive to develop their skills and improve the standard of the choreographies. In so doing, we hope that they will create even better line dances for everyone to enjoy and even to do Singapore proud on the international stage.
We have designated the month of August, and in particular August 9, the charity jam at Concourse held by Mr Ong Kee Lin, as the official launch date for this "Dance Singapore!" promotion. We thought the patriotic atmosphere generated on that day will tie in nicely with our objective, to promote Singapore dances by Singaporean choreographers. During that jam, many local dances will be played and this will be so also at the Sing Post Jam on August 14 held by Mr Mike Yoong. We hope you will come down and support these events.
During the run-up period from July to August 9, we will need your support and co-operation. Here's how you can help and lend your support:

--If you hold jams:
Can you please increase the number of local dances on the play-list? I think about 3 will do nicely, the choice of dances will be left to you, depending on the crowd that you cater to.

--Half an hour before the jam starts proper, let's have a teaching session for those that would like to learn these dances. During these teach sessions, about 3 local dances will be taught. You can conduct these teach sessions on your own or if you need the chorographer’s help with the dance, that can be arranged too, if he/she is available. One of the committee members will contact you shortly, so please work with them regarding this.

--If you are an instructor, can you please consider teaching some local dances during your class? Any of the dances on the attached list will be a good place to start. We have a mixture of dances, from beginner to advanced, country as well as non-country.

We will have a web-site www.dancesingapore.com which will contain all the relevant step-sheets and if available, video-clips of the dances. Besides that, it will serve as a one-stop listing of all the local choreographers with their biographies, step-sheets of all their dances and any available video-clips of their dances. If you host a web-site of your own, we will appreciate if you could provide a link to us. If you or your choreographer friends would like to contribute their dances, do let us know too.
We have also produced a VCD containing snippets of the works of some of our local choreographers. We intend to share these with everybody at our web-site. To create some awareness of these Singapore choreographies, we also hope to distribute a few of the VCDs at international events like the Masters-In Line World Masters in Blackpool in August and the Vegas Dance Explosion in USA in November.
However, while there will be many activities held in July/August, we hope our efforts to promote Singaporean dances will continue after this period. Please continue to put a few local dances on your jam play-list and do consider teaching any new works by local choreographers during your classes.

Thank you for your continued support--here's to many more good Singapore choreographies!

Cheers!
Felicia Chang

Dear all,
I am Karen K. and am bringing u information on the Dance Singapore! Website.

Firstly, I would like to encourage all choreographers to email their dances to me so that I can share them on the website. U can design the step sheet in any format u wish (PDF, rtf, doc...). U may also choose to send me a URL to ur step sheet so I can save it to my drive directly.
Secondly, the website will include the choreographer's biography and achievements. So please do send me a short paragraph about urself (eg. when u started dancing, what made u wanna choreograph linedance, ur view of linedancing, etc). U may like to include a photo of yourself beside ur biography.
Thirdly, if u wish to share a video of ur dance in the website, feel free to contact me about it because this website shall accomodate teaching videos and demos.
Lastly, I hope to exchange links with u if u have a website. It will be great to establish a large linedance network.

In short summary:
Dance step sheet
Short biography and/or achievements
Photo (optional)
Dance Video (optional)

Website URL
The Dance Singapore! website should be accessible in a week or two's time. I will continue to keep u updated about any significant progress
PS: I think Felicia had made a mistake about my email, it is omega_ice@hotmail.com :)

Cheers,
Karen K.
