MSN Group E-mail Settings

The MSN Email settings are the most commonly misunderstood feature of MSN communities.  New members who are unfamiliar with MSN communities quite often think that the Managers and/or members of the community that they have joined are sending them unsolicited emails.  This is most often NOT the case.  While it is possible for the Managers to email all members, we rarely do this (personally speaking, I have only done this ONCE!)...in which case the email would be identified as an email from "Management."  Any other emails you receive in your inbox are most likely being sent there automatically by MSN (NOT the community members or Managers) based on the email settings that YOU chose and that only YOU can change.  Unfortunately, MSN does not give Managers the ability to adjust anyone else's email settings but their own.

To summarize...
What, how & when you receive messages in your inbox is strictly between YOU & MSN based on the settings YOU chose!
Settings that you, and ONLY you alone, can change!

Introductory "Email"
When you first join any MSN community, you will receive an email from MSN stating that you are now a member and prompting you to participate in a number of different ways.  This is an introductory email sent out automatically by MSN.  THIS IS NOT A PERSONAL EMAIL SENT TO YOU BY THE COMMUNITY MANAGERS!

To view and/or edit your email settings...
Click on MEMBER TOOLS >
CHECK YOUR EMAIL SETTINGS
Here you have quite a few options...

E-mail Options
This screen allows you to "hide" your email address so that the other members cannot see it...so, the other members cannot email you.  Just click/UNcheck the box that reads...Allow other community members to see my e-mail address.

Messages Options
The email address for TCAP message board posts is TheClipArtPalace@groups.msn.com.   If you receive emails from this address, it means that YOU have chosen to receive the posts in your inbox...NOT that anyone is emailing you directly or individually.

To edit your settings, select Message Options to choose how you want to see the messages posted to the board by all the other members.  This is the area that many people overlook who then become annoyed with the number of emails they receive from the community on a daily basis.  It is pretty self-explanatory but I will elaborate to avoid any confusion.

Inbox - You would receive all messages posted to the board in your email inbox individually.  It may appear as if the other members are emailing you personally but they are NOT!  The members are merely posting messages on the board...the "emails" are being sent to you based on the INBOX setting you chose above that only YOU can change.  NOBODY is sending you unsolicited emails.  Please do not ask the Managers to change this setting for you...we do not have the ability to do that...you must do it yourself.

Daily Digest - This setting still sends the message board posts to your inbox but in a different format.  Instead of receiving the posts as individual "emails" you would receive one or two "emails" that list the messages posted that day.  Again...only YOU can change this setting...do not ask the Managers to do it for you because we can't.

On The Web - This is the setting that I prefer...as you can see by the screen shot above which came from MY own personal email settings.  :o)  Nothing comes to your inbox.  You can read the messages posted to the boards at your own convenience by simply going to the message board screen and scrolling through them...clicking on the subject title that you would like to read and/or respond to.

Note - Message Board Email Address
Please be aware that any emails received from OR sent to TheClipArtPalace@groups.msn.com, is coming from/going to the public message board here at The Clip Art Palace...again, based on YOUR email settings.  If you click to REPLY to this email address, it is posted to the same public message board for all members to read...It is NOT a private email between yourself and the managers or any individual member!

Community Reports Options
MSN will automatically send these reports to you as an "email" based on your setting.  The community Managers do NOT send out these reports.  A report is just a summary of the activity since the last report...lists new members, updated pages, uploaded pictures, etc.  Note that you can opt to NEVER receive these reports and again...only YOU can change this setting...Managers cannot!

Notifications
Here would be listed the community pages/message threads that you have selected to receive "email" notification of updates.  For instance, if you have posted a request on the message board and want to be notified when someone replies, you would click on the Send Me Email icon from the message thread.  Again, YOU are the only one who can select to receive or not to receive these notifications...Managers cannot!

If you have any problems with your email settings, you can contact MSN.  Please do NOT email the managers to adjust your settings because as I have said before, MSN does not give community managers the ability to do this.

Thank you,
The Clip Art Palace Management Team
