OTHER BIRD CAMS
Push on little players to open link:
CRANECAM Suggested by Beryl and Brenda at the Orca Community, this streaming, panning cam with great stereo sound comes from the Rowe Sanctuary in Nebraska's Platte River Valley. See and hear the wonderful mating dances of the Sandhill Crane, as a half million roost on a five-mile stretch of the river. Can be played in Realplayer as well.
FLAMINGOCAM Lots of flamingos at the National Zoo.
HUMMINGBIRDCAM From the Southern California's San Jacinto Mountains Natural Reserve System's St. James Reserve. Very nice cam, and I've seen some Anna's Hummingbirds there. Has a nice feature for taking captures, just a click of the button freezes the image for saving to your computer.
Here's another I am exploring: http://www.hummingbirds.net/feedercam.html http://www.hummingbirds.net/ Great resource for hummingbirds. Will update this cam description when I get a chance.
LOONCAM Donna from the Orca Community suggested this cam, which was streaming in 2005, but in 2006 became an updating cam. Check to see what they have this year. I hope they get the streaming cam back; it was great.
LOONCAM A fine cam from Connors Lake in Anchorage, Alaska. Is a first-class streaming cam (actually there are 2 cams set up, although the second cam probably won't be on until after the chicks hatch in June). It plays in RealPlayer and it has sound!
NEST BOX CAM Osmia from Orca Community recommended this group of cams from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Pop-up window updates every 30 seconds and you have a choice of Ospreys, Barn Owls, Eastern Bluebirds, and Elf Owls. I particularly enjoy the archive of QuickTime movies. Check 'em out!
OYSTERCATCHER CAM Another Beryl find, this adjustable updating cam can update the picture as quickly as one frame per second in a nice big window. One chick so far. The webcamera was mounted 11 May 2005. The nest is on top of the science building in Bergen, western Norway. The building is about 25 meters high, and the roof is covered with gravel, mosses and lichens. Three eggs were present when the camera was activated, and the adult birds did already incubate the eggs. The Oystercatcher chicks hatch after about 3,5 weeks. That chick is already running around.
PENGUINCAM Posted by Towhee in the Orca Community this automatic-updating cam comes direct from the German research station "GARS O'Higgins" at the northernmost tip of the Antartic peninsula. See donkey penquins in a clear large photo-like cam picture which updates every few minutes. Icebergs drift by in the distance. To read the information in English, open Google and click on language tools, etc. Oh, cool! I just discovered their music-to-watch-penguins music you play as you watch. http://www.martingrund.de/sounds/radio.htm Try that BlueMars Cryosleep! Good Antarctic music.
STORKCAMS Beryl from Orca Community found these unbelievably painting-like cams of storks in Bornheim, Germany providing a very close-up view. There are 3 cams. They update every 30 seconds. Really beautiful cams. Look for eggs and baby storks soon. (German time zone).
STORKNESTCAM This great cam has great streaming video and stereo sound and comes to us from Vetschau, Germany, situated in a region called "Spree forest". The opening day of the cam this year had a terrific thunderstorm. Lots of song birds and a rooster crowing as well. A sad season in 2006. Here is a video of a chick with dead sister. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq1aOqp2cDE The little brother died too. The culprit seems to be a fungus in the nest. We are awaiting news of this year's cam.
