ENVIRONMENTAL CAMS

AUGUSTINE VOLCANO CAM  The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) is a joint program of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAFGI), and the State of Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (ADGGS). AVO was formed in 1988, and uses federal, state, and university resources to monitor and study Alaska's hazardous volcanoes, to predict and record eruptive activity, and to mitigate volcanic hazards to life and property. This 5-minute full-screen cam is well worth checking out from time to time. Check HERE for more information on this volcano.

AURORACAM  Poker Flat Research Range is the world's only scientific rocket launching facility owned by a university. Poker Flat is located approximately 30 miles north of Fairbanks, Alaska and is operated by the University of Alaska's Geophysical Institute under contract to NASA's Wallops Flight Facility, which is part of the Goddard Space Flight Center. In addition to launching sounding rockets, Poker Flat is home to many scientific instruments designed to study the arctic atmosphere and ionosphere.

AURORACAM Margaret from Orca Community let us know about this mirror site to the above, which often works when the other doesn't, (and visa versa I assume).  PLUS, it has a neat movie feature that enables you to see a speeded-up movie of hours of the sky, plus an archive of past action.  This looks great.

MT. ST. HELENS VOLCANOCAM Definitely worth checking out every day.  Beautiful live and possible spectacularly explosive volcano in Washington State.

CHECK THE SIDEBOARDS FOR MORE CAM PAGES!

ADRIATIC SEACAM, SPLIT, CROATIA One of best cams for colour and detail.  From the Institute of Oceanography, Split, Croatia.  Sometimes, usually Sundays, you can see sailboat races.  Remember, the time zone difference will often show you a dark screen, when it is dark there. When storms come up, the sky gets great clouds and colours

HURRICANE CAM -SATELLITE LOOP  The GOES Gulf of Mexico Visible Image-Loop, where you can follow hurricanes by satellite! More images and loops HERE.

MT. FAITHFUL CAM I haven't seen this one for years, but when I happened upon it this morning, it was blowing full blast. An updating (30-seconds) type. Nice view, interesting at different times of the year, too.  They have redone the site and the cam is a fine, large, updating cam. Check out the videos, etc. on this site.

MT. WILSON SOLAR TOWERCAM  Captures an image every 4 minutes, 24hrs. a day from Mount Wilson Observatory, Mt. Wilson, California. (Page should refresh automatically).  Some beautiful scenes.  Sometimes in season you can see forest fires in the mountains. Rainbows, storms, snow, etc.  Check out "Best of the Towercam Page" at bottom of the site for some nice images from the past.

SPACE CAM FROM NASA Here you can watch launches of space shuttles, live space walks, etc.

GREENPEACE ESPERANZA CAM  Direct from the deck of the Esperanza. See the actual confrontations with whalers and pirate ships!  "One year. Four oceans. A million Ocean Defenders. This is our response to the growing crisis our oceans face. We are launching our most ambitious ship expedition ever, to respond to the threats and highlight the wonders of our marine world. It's going to be an amazing journey; and we're taking you with us! Watch this space for updates from the crew". WEBLOG
