HOLLYWOOD- Singer, sometimes actor, and proverbial verb Sting announced today that he will reprise his role as Feyd Rautha in Frank Herbert's Children of Dune.
Unconfirmed reports from his agents, roadies and yes-men indicate that Sting is currently in talks with the SciFi Channel to co-star in the upcoming miniseries.
Sting, when informed that the character Feyd died at the end of the first book, said: "I will kill him!"
It was unclear exactly whom he wanted to "kill," although there are rumors that he was referring to Mr. Herbert himself. Sting blames Herbert for breaking up The Police, allowing David Lynch to direct the film, and inspiring the 1998 epic, Titanic.
The comment was especially odd considering Mr. Herbert is already dead.
As of press time, a team of experts was delving into the question of whether or not Sting was actually quoting from a song he had written, or possibly a movie he was in.
There is speculation that the line "I will kill him" was in the David Lynch version of the Herbert's classic science fiction flick. The SciFi channel did a miniseries based on the novel in 2000. They are planning a second series based on Herbert's Dune Messiah and Children of Dune.
Speaking through his agent, Gordon Sumner, Sting informed the media during a press conference that he intended to play the part of Feyd and contribute to the soundtrack.
Sumner would not reveal specifics of the musical contributions, but they could include such standards as Desert Rose, and Fields of Gold.
As for the acting, Sumner said that Sting will be more comfortable playing in Children of Dune, since the character of Baron Harkonen will not be present.
"Sting enjoyed his role as Feyd Rautha in 1984, but he did not feel comfortable about a floating fat man checking out his physique," Sumner said.
Sumner also hinted at a possible rewrite of the script to include a subplot about the affair between Feyd and Chani.
A spokesperson for The SciFi Channel said he is unaware of any plans to cast Sting in Children of Dune.
"Would you people stop e-mailing," the unidentified spokesperson said. "We are too busy trying to find a replacement for the character of Gurney."
Shooting on Children of Dune is scheduled to begin in early April 2002.
