Downloads / The File Cabinet

Click on [Documents] to go directly to the download area.  This page explains the various files and formats available.  Some files are ZIPed, this is a compression method and makes the files quicker to download and uses less storage space.  To use the files you will need to have a utility to unZIP them.  I use WinZIP (click here to get your copy).  Some documents are in .EXE format, this means they have been compressed, but can be uncompressed by running the program.  Once the program is run it unZIPS into the appropriate documents (no utilities needed).  Targets are in either .JPG or .TIFF graphic formats; or they are in Word 97 format (.DOC).

Files in the Technical Documents & Articles folders are generally in .PDF, this is a univeral format and you need to have an Adobe Acrobat reader (its free).  You can get your free reader software for almost any computer platform/OS to include Palm OS PDAs and Windows CE based Pocket PCs.

The Member's Donations folder is for site members to upload document, targets, programs for sharing with other members.  Once checked for viruses, they may be moved to other folders to make the easier for other members to find.  If you have items for non-Palm PDAs put them here, if there is interest we can set up folders for those PDAs.

Files in the PC Software folder are programs that are firearm related and run on IBM type PCs.  This area is for Freeware only, and we make no warranties about the sofware (use at own risk).  The Read.Me files / Manuals in the .ZIP file will tell you what the requirements are for the software.

PCB18-EN.ZIP is a ballistic calculations program.

Files in the PDA Documents folder (.PDB) are formated for the freeware Rich Reader.  Download these files, then add them to you upload program for your PDA. (most of these files are available as PDF documents with the grpahics in the Technical Documents folder).  The PDB files are smaller and don't contain the graphics so they are better if you have one of the early 2MB PDAs.

Files in the PDA Software folder are meant to be run on Palm OS PDAs (Palm & Visor).  Some programs (like Unzip_Doc_Reader.exe) are meant to be dowloaded then run to unzip them.  Other files are PocketC programs and require the PocketC run time engine and the Math Library (both Freeware).

Unzip_Doc_Reader.exe unzips to become the Rich Reader .PRC (Palm program file), a read.me file with directions and the license.  This is Freeware, and an upgraded version is available for download at Palm HQ as well as the program to convert .RTF & .HTML documents to Rich Reader format (sans pictures).

Files in the Targets folder come in a variety of graphics formats.  Download the targets, open the files with your favorite graphics program, then make sure they are enlarged to 8.5"x11".  Then print them.  The Qualification course has its own sub-folder.

25 Meter Zeroing Target - The target used by the US military to zero their M16A2's at 25meters (27.3 yards).  The grid squares represent 1 click of windage (rear sight) or elevation (front sight) at this range.

U.S. Army Qualification Course - The Schedule 'C' course talked about in the M16A2 Marksmanship Guide (available for download) and used when full sized ranges are not available.  We run it at the MD AR-15 Shoots.  You need to print out all 4 targets (silhouettes at various simulated ranges), and will need 2 copies of the set to run one qualification.  Included are the 4 sheets of targets in a Zipped file (targets are in MS Word 97 format courtesy of Mr John Duvall), instructions, and an Excel spread sheet that can be printed and used to keep score.  There are different versions for 25 Meters, 25 Yards, and 15Meters (50feet). If you want to grab everything at once go to the appropriate subdirectory (Windows 3.x or 9x) and download the self extracting .exe file (contains instructions, score sheet, and the Word format targets for 25M, 25Y, and 15M).  If you can't read Word documents check the .TIFF files in the "Alternative Format" subdirectory. Lots of fun!
