Here is a list of questions I am often asked. I thought I would post them here to help others who may be wondering the same things, or as a refresher course for those who have been members of other MSN Groups before.
Q: What is the Meetinghouse and how did it come about?
A: The Meetinghouse was created in April 2005 as a place for people to come together and talk about life and current events and just anything they have on their mind in a safe, warm and loving environment. It has a core of Christian values, though it is not strictly for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- all faiths are welcome and encouraged to join.
Q: Who are the Managers here and how do I contact them?
A: The Meetinghouse is managed by HeartAngel. You can contact HeartAngel by posting a message in the Foyer, or by emailing her privately: Contact the Manager You may also address questions to LammyAnn, who has volunteered to serve as Assistant Manager.
Q: How do I know which board to post in?
A: The Meetinghouse has several "rooms" containing different types of topics.
- The Foyer is the main room where most of the discussions are taking place -- anything from what kind of weather you are having to current events that spark your interest.
- The Primary Room is second in posting numbers and this is where you will find fun and games. Not a lot of discussion happens in the Primary Room, but you may be surprised how much you learn about the other members through their answers in the games and activities. It's a great place to visit when you have a few extra minutes to spare.
- The Media Center is where you go to catch up on the latest in books, movies and music. Members offer their reviews on various films that they've seen and books they recommend (or not).
- The Classroom contains spiritual messages and lessons pertaining to the scriptures and various other uplifting items. Here you will also find monthly Visiting Teaching Messages for our Relief Society sisters and now you can also get the monthly Home Teaching messages as well -- thanks to Gee and Dew for the time they spend on these for us.
- The Kitchen contains recipes compiled by members of the Meetinghouse. I know I'm often at a loss as to what to cook for dinner and the Kitchen has tried-and-true recipes to help get me out of the funk. Anyone is welcome to add their favorite meals and dessert ideas.
Q: What does it mean by "Moderated" and why don't my posts show up right away?
A: The Meetinghouse is a Moderated Group through MSN, meaning that messages have to first be approved by management before being sent on to the Boards. The purpose for this is to prevent messages that are offensive, pornographic, or malicious in content from ever reaching the Group. After a poster has been considered genuine in wanting to participate, their messages are automatically approved and do not need to be screened before being posted. Once you are put to "automatic" the Group settings will still tell you (after hitting "Send") that the post is being moderated, but clicking "Yes" to send anyway will put it right through.
Q: Whenever I go into the Chat Room, it's empty. How come?
A: The Meetinghouse has members from all over the world and are often on at different times of the day. Every once in a while you may catch someone checking the chat room at the same time you are, but that's kind of rare. If you have time to chat, it's best to post a message in the Foyer to let other members know you are there, or post a message saying when you'd like to chat. When others know a specific time when someone will be there, they will more likely come in and join you. We've had some really fun chats in there that way!
Q: What is a Siggie?
A: A "siggie" is a slang term for signature. Many members like to make their posts unique by ending with a picture or graphic that has their name in it. If you want a siggie of your own, post a request in the Siggie Board -- The Meetinghouse has many talented graphic artists who can whip something up for you.
