Two Shuttles are needed, wound with approximately 4 yrds each. This was made with size #20 thread.
Note: this is only 3 ½" / 8.89cm so if your making it longer fill the shuttle, you may still need to switch shuttles somewhere if needed using the SLT (which is just crossing your threads and making one knot just like you would tie your shoe.)
R=Ring P=Picot Ch=Chain Rw=Reverse work(or just turn work over)
Cl=Close Sh1=Shuttle1 Sh2=Shuttle2 FR=Floating Ring DNR=Do Not Reverse
Keep in mind if your doing Front/Back Side tatting to do your double stitches in reverse.
My first ring was made in the normal manner, and I reversed to make my first chain, which I did my double stitches in reverse order, so my work is the same on both sides. This is optional, and looks just as nice regardless how you tat.
If you think your little rings are to small at 6ds you can make them all with 8ds around the outside, and it will still look nice.

Starting with the inside ring with 3 picots to start.
Sh1 R 3ds p 3ds p 3ds p 3ds Cl Rw
**Ch 4ds DNR
Sh2 - FR 6ds Cl DNR

Sh2 - R 6ds p 2ds p(can be made larger if desired) 2ds p 6ds Cl DNR
Sh1 - Ch 4ds DNR
Sh2 - FR 8 ds Cl DNR
Sh1 - Ch 4ds
Sh2 - FR 6ds  Cl DNR
Sh1 - Ch 4ds Rw
Here you will be working down one side for the desired length you want the bookmark to be.
Sh1 - R 3ds p 3ds + (join to center p of first ring made) 3ds p 3ds Cl Rw
*Ch 4 ds DNR
Sh 2 - FR 8ds Cl DNR
Sh1 Ch 4ds Rw
R 3ds + (to side p of previous ring) 3ds p 3ds p 3ds Cl Rw
Repeat from * for desired length, joining to each side picot of previous ring.
Once you have reached your desired length,
Repeat the bottom the same as the top from ** (If your adding a chain tassel leave your bottom picot a bit smaller to attach it on.)
And start to work the other side.
Sh1 R 3ds p 3ds + (join to center p of ring across) 3ds p 3ds Cl Rw
Ch 4ds DNR
Sh2 - FR 8 ds Cl DNR
Sh1 - Ch 4ds RW
R 3ds + (to side picot) 3ds + (to center p of ring opposite side) 3ds p 3ds Cl Rw
Continue up joining each rings to the previous side picot and center picot of opposite rings.
Last Chain at top gets joined to the base of the first ring made. Tie off, hide ends.
Starch if desired.
