All Aes Sedai except the Amrylin Seat belong to an Ajah. Each follows a specific philosophy of the use of the One Power and the purposes of the Aes Sedai.

Each Ajah has its own organization and communications network including a spy network called the eyes-and-ears. Curiously, the head of each Ajah is a closely guarded secret within the Ajah and the Ajah head is typically not a Sitter.  Within the Green Ajah, she is known as the Captain-General.

The Green Ajah is called the Battle Ajah. Originally, they held themselves for Tarmon Gaidon. Since Tarmon Gaidon is now over, they are still considered the Battle Ajah.  Fierce fighters of Shadowspawn, they are also known for their appreciation of men, a trait fairly rare among the other Ajahs. While the Red Sisters bond no Warders, and Sisters of other Ajahs will bond no more than one at a time, the Green Ajah permits its members to bond several Warders. While this fact is a sometime source of humor among the sisters of other Ajahs, it is not an entirely frivolous practice. During the Trolloc Wars, the Greens additional Warders made a positive difference in battle. The Eyes and Ears of the Green Ajah report on military movements and strengths, and the level of activity in the Blight.
