The following rules are based on VV members' suggestions, and are open to revision at any time.
Any changes will be announced on our messageboards!
  • Every VV member is encouraged to enter photos in our monthly Violet of the Month contest, and also to cast a vote for their favorite!
  • A NEW
    Violet of the Month Contest!

The July VOM will be a departure from the usual this month.

Instead of posting a photo of a violet we would like you to try doing a design.

The design should be a miniature flower arrangement set into a niche that is 5x5x5 inches on all sides and photographed from the front at eye level. We would like it to conform to AVSA rules which means that no live creatures (fish or insects) can be used and no flags of any nation. The design should consist of one or more AV blossoms which are displayed in an attractive setting.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with a niche, it is an enclosure which is open on the top and front. It contains 2 sides and one back all of which are 5 inches square.

The arrangement should follow the theme without being blatantly obvious. You will be permitted to use a background of your choice and an accessory of some type if you choose to do so. The mechanics of the design should not show. Your design should not extend beyond the niche or touch any part of the niche. Other than that you may use any plant material to augment your idea.

The theme for the design is "Olympic Summer Games".

Your design should conform to one of the Olympic events and should illustrate it in some way. You should include the title of the event with your entry.

Entries should be completed and posted to the VofM photo album
by July 20, 2008 and voting will follow
    'till July 31, 2008.

For excellent help, please read the AVSA's informative article:  Basics of Flower Arrangements which may be found on their Magazine page.

If you have any questions about this challenge please contact Fred Hill at FredCHill @ comcast.net
