As a Manager...

... you're the boss!

A few things to ask yourself:

  • What kind of people am I attracting to my site?
  • Do I want quantity, or quality in my members?
  • Am I making my members feel welcome?
  • Am I in this to gain popularity, or do I feel I have something to share with others?
  • How do I handle disputes and unruly members on my site?
  • If a member disagrees with my rules, do I give in to them just to keep the number of members high?
  • If one of my members makes others uncomfortable, but hasn't crossed that fine line yet -- do I keep them because they are regular posters?
  • Am I showing my members that I play an active role in my site?

As a Manager of an MSN Group you not only have a responsibility to uphold and abide by MSN's Code of Conduct and Terms of Use, but you have an obligation to your members as well.  By you setting the guidelines on your Group, your members trust that you will make their time spent in your group as comfortable as possible.

*Be careful who you put in charge*

  • If you make another person manager they can remove you from your own group, or delete your group altogether.  Assistant managers can not.
  • However, assistant managers can delete all of your content, and unjoin other assistants & members.

As the Manager of your group, you are responsible for everything that happens on your group.

  • If someone posts a link to a pornographic site, you need to take care of it.  If your site is not set for adult content, this is not okay.  It could offend other members.
  • If someone posts a copyrighted graphic on your site; for example:  Disney Characters -- MSN has the right to close your site down if a Disney representative finds out and files a complaint.  One of your own members may have given Disney the heads-up.
  •

The bottom line is; if you do not make rules that both you and your members must abide by, some people will take advantage of you, and some may even want you to change their rules for their benefit.

This page is a work in progress, we will be adding more all of the time.
