Why I Established this Community

Back in 1993 I began a project to write a book about trumpet playing.   I reasoned to myself that it would be different than any book ever written.   I told my father about my idea,  and he seemed genuinely excited about the prospect.   I didn't know whether he was just humoring me or not,  but I was gung ho and ready,  and so I began writing "the book".   Everytime I wrote an article I would show my father.   He kept encouraging me to continue.   I started writing newsletters and distributing them in music stores.  My father took at least 300 of them,  and distributed them to his students.   Then word came that my father,  a very young  66 years of age had esophageal cancer.   He was a trooper,  always smiling, always telling people how he was feeling  "great",  and always asking me when my book was going to be finished.  He kept saying that he wanted to sell the book to his students.   As my father's condition grew  worse,  most of my time was divided between work,  my family,  and father.   I worked on the book feverishly.   I felt as if I was racing against the clock to complete it.   Well,  the book was completed two days before my father's death,  and he never saw it.  My father was near comatose for nearly two days before he died.
I never published the book.   There were too many feelings attached to that book,  and the feelings are still there.   The book is currently separated by chapters and placed in various notebooks throughout my office.   My father wanted every one  he knew,  including all his trumpet students to read my book.   He was a proud father,  and I miss him dearly.
I decided that I would create a community that could be accessed by anyone in the trumpet playing community,  and post articles from my book,  and newsletters.   I would even re-write some of the articles,  and add new ones too.   I would call this community,  "Trager Trumpet Talk",  and this community would be dedicated to the memory of the greatest trumpet player and teacher I ever met, "my Dad"- Jack E. Trager.   I love you Dad!

Sincerely,
