BOOTS
It is not necessary to buy expensive high tech hiking boots, although they are nice to have. Any sturdy, waterproof boot with good ankle and arch support, and good traction will work fine. Make sure to purchase boots that are big enough to go over two pairs of socks. Boots are necessary on all of our high-adventure trips, but let your son grow some more before you invest in high-end boots.
