What are UFO's ?

 ...        ….

UFO`S are the single most widely reported phenomenon in the world, thousands upon thousands of people claim they have witnessed UFO`s floating in the sky. From small flashing lights to silent metallic discs flying through the clouds in broad daylight.

UFO`S have remained the worlds No1 mystery for over 50 years, the most fascinating features of UFO`S are there incredible manoeuvres when it comes to aerodynamics. They have been witnessed just hovering in one spot and even flying around both vertically and horizontally with very little effort though they don't appear to have any means of propulsion. They have been seen to just vanish completely in the blink of an eye leaving no trace or vapour trails whatsoever.

During my time as an investigator for another local UFO group here in the Midlands, I was able to meet people who had claimed to of seen strange lights and objects in the skies over there homes. I have added their sightings under case files.

But still, the `original` UFO sighting (the one commonly regarded as having started it all) took place on June 24th 1947 when pilot Kenneth Arnold, spotted a formation of odd-looking craft flying over Mount Ranier in Washington State's Cascade mountain range. It was Kenneth Arnold who described what he had seen as moving " like a saucer would if you skipped it across water", then along came local reporter Bill Bequette who coined the phrase ` flying saucer` and the UFO era as we know it began.

Roughly 95% of UFO sightings have an explanation of a rational nature, this figure is almost universally agreed upon (give or take a percentage or two) by every official body logging UFO sightings, from civilian research organisations to the British Ministry of Defence. Over the years there have been over 400 radar observations made concerning UFO's. But perhaps the most significant report was one of a radar sequence released into the public domain by the Belgium Airforce itself, showing a UFO descending from 10,000 feet to 500 feet in less than five seconds. Had a pilot been on board the craft, the Ge-force alone would of resulted in instant death.

Sceptic's and debunkers dismissed the radar footage by claiming the object was merely a reflection of some distant landmark, a temperature inversion created by freak weather conditions. Two F-16 fighters had been ordered to intercept the UFO in question, one of the pilots was interviewed and his story was released to the public. Even though there have been more than 400 actual radar recordings down the years (and remember those are only the one's we get to hear about) sceptic's & debunkers continue to either totally ignore these or insist in each case they had to of been produced using faulty equipment or temperature inversions.

It is widely acknowledged that one well-publicised spate of sightings tends to cause what is known in the trade as a`flap`- a flurry of other sightings, this in turn creates a UFO `hot-spot`. Gulf Breeze, Florida, is likely to be the UFO hotspot of the decade, it seems that UFO`S just keep coming back. Unidentified lights and craft have been spotted on and off there since the mid-Eighties, but the real story began in 1988 when local man Ed Walters took photographs of a UFO with his old Polaroid camera. They turned out disappointingly dark and unclear, but the nature of the Polaroid film meant that it could be light-blasted: a process that strips away the top layers of the print and lightens the whole picture.

Another famous case reported was on April 21st 1991, just after 9pm, an Alitalia MD-80 jet carrying fifty-seven passengers from Milan to London's Heathrow Airport, was crossing the Kent coast near Lydd. Suddenly Captain Achille Zaghetti spotted a cigar-shaped object above and ahead of him. It flashed past them on a dangerously close path. The object was unlike anything he had seen before, but from its lozenge shape and great speed he feared it might be a missile. Heathrow Airport was tracking the aircraft at 22,000 feet on its steady descent, when they picked up the unidentified object on screen just as captain Zaghetti had reported. The UFO was about ten miles behind the jet and disappearing fast. They had no idea what it was.

Both the Ministry of Defence and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) effectively hushed up this case as they started enquiries, although Zaghetti submitted an official report. He then chose to talk about what had happened back in Italy and the British authorities were forced to go public about their investigations.

The CAA confirmed that " extensive enquiries had failed to indicate what the sighting may have been ". They had ruled out all possibilities that it was a rogue missile from a range on the Kent coast, as they could not of reached the height of this object. The MoD said, " what happened was a mystery. It was yet another UFO ".

Six British incidents of mid-air encounters are on record between 1991 and 1993, others have almost certainly occurred…
