Events for 2006
JANUARY 21 - Tech-day/swap meet at Mazda of Midland - Mike Grossie brought Krispy Kreme Donuts from Lubbock, Mazda of Midland provided: pizza - soft drinks - koozies - ball point pens - air fresheners - key chains - - coffee - bottled water - a walk-around of the new 2006 MX-5 by Jerry Richardson - fun test-drives - and Bill Haase did a LOT of inspections and a few oil changes and minor maintenance. Robin Donnelly brought his '71 MGB for us to drool over. 16 Miatas participated.
JANUARY 24 - Zoomer Tuesday dinner at Logan's Roadhouse in Midland. Great turnout and conversation.
FEBRUARY 21 – Zoomer Tuesday Dinner at the Hog Pit Pub & Grub. 16 of us enjoyed fantastic barbeque - particularly the ribs and beer.
FEBRUARY 25 - our first Saturday night trek of the year to the Big Sky Drive-In Theatre in Midland
MARCH 21 - Zoomer Tuesday dinner at McAlister's Deli in Midland. 18 folks enjoyed good food, tea, and conversation.
MARCH 24-26 - Bob Price led an excellent weekend trek we call "bend the BEND." Headquartered in Ft. Davis, 15 Miatas from Tumbleweed - Bluebonnet - and Lone Star Miata clubs witnessed the Marfa Lights, Presidio, Lajitas, and McDonald Observatory.
APRIL 1 - RUN FOR THE RABBITS in Odessa. Ginger Florence planned a fun scavenger hunt for the 39 rabbits in Odessa. 10 of us chased rabbits around town and ended up with a nice dinner at Mama's Kitchen. Bryan and Donna Prima won the prize for most rabbits found and Ginger had some wonderful door prizes for the participants.
APRIL 18 - Zoomer Tuesday dinner to Mama's Kitchen in Odessa. Twelve of us enjoyed good food and wonderful conversation.
JUNE 2-3-4 - Run to Ruidoso 2006 - Seven Miatas and a Honda drove to Eagle Lake, Capitan, Carrizozo, Lincoln, Cloudcroft - saw the western show and ate dinner at the Flying J Ranch with a Sunday breakfast at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. Jim & Freida Treat and Lew & Rowena Archer drove up from San Antonio to become new Miata friends. The only disappointment was the extreme fire danger....we were prevented from driving up Sierra Blanca (always a highlight of our trip.) Pictures will be posted on the pictures page shortly.
June 16 - Big Sky Drive-In - for the new movie release of "Cars" - 5 Miatas enjoyed a great evening and a GREAT movie
June 20 – Zoomer Tuesday Dinner at the new Jason's Deli in Midland - 14 folks enjoyed good food and conversation
July 19 - Zoomer Tuesday Dinner to Big Daddy's Catfish in Odessa - 17 folks ate "well." Ask George Robertson about the size of his chicken fried steak!
July 29 - Timed Road Rally & Banana Split Party - hosted by Roger and Judy Rusert. 28 folks rambled and got lost and then found in two separate runs with lunch at KD's Bar-B-Q before a fun ending with banana splits at the Rusert's. Thanks MUCH to Bob & Ruth Price and the Rusert's for working so hard at planning this event. The morning run was a simpler prelude to the difficult afternoon romp. We're learning as we go!
August 19 - Saturday, Van Pearcy hosted/sponsored a Classic Car Show at his office parking lot across from Memorial Stadium on Cuthbert in Midland. I counted about 40 wonderfully restored classics, hot rods, muscle cars, and a gorgeous MG T2 owned by Charlie Semple. Several of us met at Burger King for breakfast before heading over for the "free" show.
August 22 - Zoomer Tuesday Dinner to the new Asian Buffet in Midland (Cornerstone Shopping Center.) Ten of us enjoyed a casual dining and conversation with good food.
September 9 – Zoomer Tuesday dinner "Respect for the Aged Day" in Japan - CHINESE food at Asian Buffet (Cornerstone Shopping Center - Loop 250 at N. Midland Drive)
September 23 - Saturday, 7th Annual Permian Basin Intertribal Powwow! at Odessa College Gymnasium. We had a colorful and informative day and then a late lunch at Furr's Cafeteria. http://transpecosamericanindianassn.com/powwow.htm
November 11 - Veteran's Day trek to Big Spring. Six Miatas enjoyed a tour of Hangar 25 Museum at the old Big Spring Airport, lunch at Big John's Barbeque, and a stop at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Thank you Vickie McLean for heading up the convoy.
November 28 - Zoomer Tuesday dinner at Jason's Deli in Midland. Seventeen of us took up a corner and visited for good conversation and food.
December 2 - annual "Heart of Midland" Christmas parade. Eleven decorated Miatas participated and Mark Snowden took pictures that we'll have up on the website soon.
December 16 - our 10th annual Christmas lights "DINE-N-DRIVE" hosted by Larry & Kim Gillette in their new home. 18 Miatas and guests toured the lights of Midland followed by an invasion at Starbuck's for coffee and hot chocolate.
