These "giants" were the Greek Titans, such as Zeus, Apollo, and the dozens of other demigods who walked among men.
Assuming these accounts to be basically true, it goes without saying that their cohabitation with earthly humans gave mankind access to dangerous knowledge from beyond the dimensional barrier.
The timeless knowledge of the ages from another dimension brought men to destruction. In their fallen and sinful state, they were simply unequipped to handle the temptations handed to them by a superior power from on high.
Like children given matches and dynamite, it was – ironically – only a matter of time, until they destroyed themselves. Knowing this, the Lord extinguished the fire with a flood.
He had these fallen angels select the most desirable human women and marry them to produce offspring we called the Nephillim, or fallen ones.
They were super human in strength and size and were the origin of the so-called demi-gods of mythology, but their allegiance was to Satan not God.
Later their Babylonian name Shaitan (from the Hebrew for Satan) would be translated into English as Titan and "Gigantes," the Greek for Nephillim, would become your word "giant,"
In all the Earth only the creatures that live in the sea and those of us on the ark survived. Later the memory of this time would be re-created in pagan minds with the legend of the lost continent of Atlantis.
Something similar might have happened to Atlantis. According to Plato's account, the inhabitants of Atlantis were Titans.
The Greeks stated that the Titans, or giants, were half god and half man -- products of unions between gods and earth women. Atlantis was destroyed and with it the Titans who were trying to take over the world.

Remember that it took Noah almost one hundred years to build the Ark (Genesis 5:32 & 6:6). A long enough time for such powerful giants to do a lot of marvelous things.

Point for point the story of Atlantis matches with Moses and Enoch's accounts of the antediluvian world, and how divine beings had intermarried with humans, giving birth to semi-divine giants. Poseidon is said here to have married a human woman, and her name is even given: Cleito. He apparently was one of the two cherubs who cover the mercy seat (God's throne) with their wings (see Heb. 8:5; 9:5, 23-24; Exo. 25:20; 37:9; I Kin. 6:19-28; 8:6-7; I Chr. 28:18; II Chr.3:10-13; 5:7-8). However, because of pride in his beauty, this cherub's wisdom was corrupted. Satan is symbolically called the "king of Tyre" (Eze. 28:12). The coastal city-state of Tyre was one of the world's greatest traders during Israel's monarch period. Isaiah calls Tyre "the bestower of crowns, whose merchants were princes, whose traders were the honored of the earth" (Isa. 23:8). Although the Scriptures don't define the trade Satan was engaged in, it clearly tells us that because of the abundance of his trade, he sinned. Possibly Satan, through the power God delegated to him, implemented a system of competition rather than cooperation. It could be that this attitude eventually filled him with violence, causing his iniquity. The word rendered "trading" in the NKJV translation of Ezekiel 28:16 is a form of the Hebrew noun rekulla, which means "traffic" or "merchandise." This particular form of rekulla is only found five times, all in Ezekiel (Eze. 26:12; 27:20, 23; 28:16, 18). However, rekulla is derived from the root word rakal. It's relevant to note that a closely-related derivative, rakil, means "slanderer." It's used in this context six times in the Hebrew Scriptures (Lev. 19:16; Jer. 6:28; 9:4; Eze.22:9; Pro. 11:13; 20:19). The account of Satan in Ezekiel 28 could well involve aspects of both these meanings. In the New Testament, this fallen angel is often called the "devil," or diabolos in Greek (Matt. 4:1, 5, 8, 11; 13:39; 25:41; Luke 4:2, 3, 6, 13; 8:12; John 8:44; 13:2; Acts 10:38; 13:10; Eph. 4:27; 6:11; I Tim. 3:6, 7; II Tim. 2:26; Heb. 2:14; Jam. 4:27; I Pet. 5:8; I John 3:8, 10; Jude 9; Rev. 2:10; 12:9, 12; 20:2, 10). Not coincidentally, the literal meaning of diabolos and its variations is "slanderer." We know that Satan tried this approach in the Garden of Eden, when he misrepresented God's motives to Eve (Gen. 3:1-5). The angelic forces loyal to God eventually had to cast this "anointed cherub," along with his allies, out of heaven. From that point forward he became known in Hebrew as HaSatan, or "the Adversary."
