Training and Matches - Western at Mott
Mott beats Western twice. Mustang, Ryan Stewart wins two matches for best individual performance by Mustangs.
Mott College beat Western in two straight duals, both in Freestyle and Folkstyle. In the first dual in Freestyle, Mott won five matches to Western's two. Mustang winners were Ryan Stewart (90 kg) and Ian Patton (130 kg). The second dual in Folkstyle had the same result -- Mott winning five matches to Western's two, but Mustafa Bukhari (54 kg) defeated his Mott opponent by pin. Ryan Stewart also won in Folkstyle and was the best performer winning both matches. "It was good to get these first matches of the season for the team", said Coach Ray Taka hashi. "Even though on paper we didn't perform well it gives us valuable experience and training. It was well worth the trip as we got some good scrimmaging in as well." The Mott-Western exchange is in its third year and developed when Mott coach, Paul Holdren attended the Western Open in 2003 and spoke to Takahashi about training and having matches in the future. "It's a 'friendly' dual", said Takahashi. The host runs the training session and matches up the wrestlers. It's a great start for both of us before the tournaments begin."
