Egon Beiler makes a surprise visit to Western.
One of Canada's best wrestlers ever, Egon Beiler, dropped in on Friday's mustang practice (Feb. 6, 2004) while in London visiting.  Beiler, who practices dentistry in Waterloo, competed for the mustangs coached by Glynn Leyshon and was a teammate of current coach, Ray Takahashi.  "It was good to have him in the room," remarked Takahashi.  ".... to introduce him to current team members, many of whom, unfortunately, are unaware of many of our past alumni and their accomplishments."  Beiler was a World Cup  Wrestling  Champion -1975 and 3 time Olympian  1972, 76, 80  at 62 kg , as well as Pan-Am Games Champion and  two time Commonwealth Games Champion.  Takahashi believes it is valuable for current team members to know more about the strong tradition of wrestling at Western, its supporters and who they are.
