Rules of Wrestling

"take your opponent down and pin him (her)"

Freestyle Wrestling is the style used in the OUA, CIS Leagues governed under the CAWA

Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association Rules (CAWA)

New Rules - effective immediately November 2007 http://www.wrestling.ca/pdf/2007-08_RulesUpdates.pdf

YOUTH Wrestling Rules (9-14 years of age)

see CAWA rules -- page 42 & 43

High School Rules (OFSAA)

OFSAA continues to endorse the Open (Cadet) rules for Wrestling.  There are a few minor modifications to the Open Rules  unique to OFSAA.  These are available for viewing on the OAWA web-site (www.oawa.ca) in the Officials and Rules Section.

Latest Clarification from Official John Dawson:  Jan 3, 2005

For the situations involving a 5 point throw or after the second three point throw, the offensive wrestler is allowed to continue to the pin without concern for a reroll as the defensive counter is not allowed and the match stopped as soon as the pinning situation ends.  However when a 6 point difference is achieved action may continue if a pin is imminent, a defensive counter is allowed to score & if the counter reduces the score to less than a 6 point difference the bout continues  without stoppage.

Is top "red" wrestler scoring points or is her move illegal because the hand is over the mouth?  What's your call?
