The Origin of Satan and Hell
When God created the universe, He also created millions of angels to be His assistant messengers and helpers. God created one angel, Lucifer (the shining one), very beautiful, powerful and intelligent. Lucifer was leader over millions of angels in heaven. [Ezekiel 28:15]
Lucifer became so proud of his wonderful self that he decided he should sit on God’s throne and rule the universe. He was able to persuade one-third of the angels to join him in a colossal rebellion against God.
In committing this evil act, Lucifer brought himself down with all his cohorts to the lowest of all beings. His character and personality changed to pure evil and hate, and he became the creator, originator, and source of all sin and evil. He was given a name befitting his new personality, SATAN, meaning “enemy or adversary”. [Isaiah 14:12-14]
IF YOU DIE WITHOUT JESUS, IF YOU DIE WITHOUT YOUR SINS FORGIVEN, IF YOU DIE IN A STATE OF SIN AND UNRIGHTEOUNESS, SATAN WILL BE YOUR MASTER AND CHIEF TORMENTOR FOREVER.
Some of Satan’s other names and titles are: Devil, Accuser of the Brethren, Great Red Dragon, the Evil One, the Father of Lies, Murderer, Serpent, god of this world, Prince of Demons, Prince of Darkness, Tempter, Beelzebub, Prince of the Power of the Air.
The angels who joined him in his rebellion against God became fallen angels, demons, evil spirits, and unclean spirits.
Although Lucifer was very intelligent, he was not all wise, or he would have realized that the created being (Satan himself) could not overpower and replace his Creator God.
God threw Satan and his demons out of heaven and into Hell and onto the Earth. [Luke 10:18, 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6, Revelation 12:9]
On earth Satan was allowed to tempt the first man, Adam, who had rulership of the earth. When Adam yielded to Satan’s temptation and disobeyed God, he forfeited rulership of the earth over to Satan. [Genesis 3:1-24]
Since that time Satan and his demons have had rulership of the earth and its atmosphere. [John 12:31, John 14:30, John 16:11, Ephesians 2:2]
WHO IS SATAN?
Satan and all his wicked spirits are created beings. They did not exist until God created them. They are deceivers and they incite evil in the world. Satan and his demons are God’s enemies and they are your enemies too.
WHERE IS SATAN?
He operates in hell and in the earth and in its atmosphere. [Job 1:7] Occasionally he is called into God’s heavenly realm to give account of his activities. Satan is not personally present everywhere, like God is. Satan’s demon slaves help give the false impression that he can be everywhere.
WHAT IS SATAN LIKE?
Satan is very wise and crafty, but his knowledge is limited. He can be invisible. Satan is very powerful, but his power is limited. [Ephesians 2:1-6, 6:11-12]
Satan is changeable and untrustworthy: He changes to suit his purposes.
He is a master of disguise. He can disguise himself as an angel of light as he often does when people have near death experiences (NDE’s), or out-of-body experiences (OBE’s) and when they are resuscitated from death like states. [2 Corinthians 11:14] He can be as smooth as silk one minute and like a roaring lion the next. He can be like a caressing lover one minute and biting serpent the next.
Satan cannot create like God can – he only corrupts, pollutes, contaminates and destroys the things that God creates. All evil suffering and pain can be traced back to Satan. Satan is totally false and is a liar and the Father of lies. He is arrogant, dishonest, and shameful.
Satan’s Personality: Job 1:8-11, Job 2:3-5, Matthew 4:3-11
Satan is rough, wicked and cruel. He is filled with hate, is totally without mercy, and utterly selfish. He has a sick, warped sense of humor. He is very bitter. Satan is jealous of God’s power and majesty. He is rude and arrogant.
Satan’s Character: He is totally evil and the originator of all evil. Not even a fraction of good exists in him. He is proud, unrighteous, totally depraved and wicked. Satan is unholy, totally corrupt, subtle, and crafty. A double-crosser, back stabber, traitor and deceiver.
[Isaiah 14:12-14, 1 John 2:13Genesis 3:1, 2 Corinthians 11:3, 14, Ephesians 6:11]
He is totally unjust and unfair. Satan is cowardly, cruel and a perverter of scriptures. He is an opposer of God’s work and hinders the Gospel.
Satan and his demons hate you with a passion an will use every dirty scheme their evil minds can devise to lure, entice and trick you down the broad path to eternal darkness of hell.
Their primary and ultimate goal is to get your eternal soul into hell, where they can torment you throughout eternity.
“Be sober, vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8).
Satan will try to keep you from making contact with your true Creator, God the Father. If you find God, Satan loses you, and his power over you is broken as you gain knowledge of the spiritual power available to you through your relationship with Christ.
If you choose Satan, you are choosing the vanquished ruler. If you choose sin, selfishness, unbelief, atheism, immorality, unforgiveness, unkindness, lust, pride, lying, bitterness or hatred you are in essence choosing Satan. You have chosen to follow your father the Devil and so shall you ever be with him. You have chosen to follow him wicked ways: in thoughts, words, attitudes, actions and deeds.
Why is there a Hell? Satan is so evil and powerful that God created hell as an awful place of punishment for Satan and his followers. [Matthew 25:41]
Hell is a prison that separates and confines evil beings and prevents them from infecting and contaminating the eternal Kingdom of God with their evil.
Where is Hell? Hell is a horrible kingdom of torment, an enlarged cave-like structure located in the bowels (center) of the earth filled with molten lava, fire and brimstone. Hell is two-dimensional in nature. The first dimension is an unseen malevolent spirit world of twighlight-zone existence. The second dimension is a barren earthlike under-world of volcanic tunnels and valleys of darkness and extreme heat. These two dimensions co-mingle in the bowels of the earth to create the tormenting caverns of the deep - the realm of hell - the abode of the dammed.
Who Rules Over Hell? Satan rules over hell with hatred and cruelty.
What Is Hell Like? Those in hell will be separated from God, and all God’s goodness and love will be totally absent from hell.
Environment: Hell consists of everlasting fire, darkness, chaos, and rivers of fiery molten lava flowing through the dark crevices and corridors of hell.
