| Butterfly & Branch Tutorial by Neenee *Written Feb. 03, 2003* ©UniqueBoutique Designs Please feel free to Link to this tutorial, and/or print it out for your personal use. Any similarityto another tutorial is purely coincidental- this tut is of my own imagination. Let's get started! This is the butterfly we will be creating -You will need Flaming Pears Flexify Filter to change the shape of the heart preset shape that is used for the wings - you can download a trial version of Flexify Here - you also need a heart preset shape - if you don't have one, you can get that Here. The butterfly will of course be resized much smaller - and in part 2 of this tut - we will make the branch shown below using the Draw Tool and a Custom Brush. If you have not yet tried the Brush tutorial - look here :) In PSP open a new transparent 400 x 300 image - on your color palette - choose black for your foreground color and a gradient for your fill color. Using your heart shape in your preset shapes tool, draw a heart only half the size of your image - go to Layers, and convert to Raster Layer. Open your Flexify filter and click the dice until you get a shape very similar to this one Go to Layer, Duplicate, go to Image, mirror and move both layers til they look like this Go to Layers, Merge Visible and repeat drawing a smaller heart - flexifying it, and duplicating and mirroring it and moving both layers to form wings as shown Now we are going to draw the 'spots' on the wings using the Dodecagon shape in your preset shape tools - it is shown below - leave the black as your foreground color and the same gradient- only change the style to sunburst and draw a vertical oval shape on the left top wing - go to Layers, Raster Layer , go to Layers, Duplicate - go to Image, Mirror and the shapewill now be on the opposite wing as shown Repeat these same steps for the lower wings - only draw your oval shape horizontally Go to Layers, Merge Visible - using your paint brush and these settings - paint 'dots' on the oval shapes as shown Now we are going to add the 'body' - use that same Dodecagon shape - and choose black as both foreground and fill colors and draw an oblong shape for the body in the center of the wings as shown to add the 'antennae' - click on your Draw tool- it is the pencil next to your preshape tool- null your fill color on your color palette - you will only be using the background color -black. Use this setting and 'draw' freehand, a squiggly line on one side of the butterflys head- go to Layers, Raster Layer, go to Layer, Duplicate, then Image, mirror and your second antennae will now appear opposite the first. Resize your butterfly to 100x61 it should now be this size Continue on to part 2 for the branch/flowers |
