| Swan by ©Neenee - 9/18/04 Bg's by Neenee You may print this tut out for your own personal use, or link to it, but please do not place in any other site - thank you! This tutorial is of my own imagination - it was made using PSP 8 but is certainly adaptable to 7 & 9 as well - your tools may not be in the same places as with PSP 8 - know where your tools are! You will be creating the swan in this graphic **There are 3 pages to this tut - I've added lots of screen shots - 36 to be exact - to help PSP'ers who are not familiar with using vectors and nodes - that's why this looks so long- but it really does not take much time to make this- please allow pages to fully download** Save often so you don't lose your work! Open a new 500x500 transparent image. Set color palette to white background, foreground null. Using the preset shape tool, ellipse, make a long horizontal oval - be sure create as vector is checked - for the body convert to raster layer - make a long vertical thin oval shape for the neck click on pen tool - insert arrow into bottom nodule, right click, choose node type, symmetric - you will see an arrow as shown in the photo above. Grab the right side and slightly pull out to your right and then pull down - like shown below with mover tool, move neck in place (will still be vector layer so we can add and manipulate nodes). Click pen tool- we are going to add 2 more nodes on either side between the middle nodes and the top node - hold down the Ctrl key and left click mouse until you see 'add'- then left click- now do the other side. On the upper left nodule - insert arrow and right click, choose node type, symmetric. Place mouse on node and pull to your left - so that you have a shape like this Place mouse on node to the right of this one and move it over towards your left to make an 'S' shape - adjust the node below that - move it slightly over to the left also so you have a smooth flowing shape Insert arrow into the very top node, right click and choose node type, symmetric. Slightly pull out the right arrow to your right giving the top portion of swan's neck a more rounded shape that suits the rest of it. Merge layers visible. My swan pretty much takes up my whole 500x500 image and I need some space for adding the head and beak - I imagine yours must too...so use the deform tool and adjust your size smaller Using the ellipse preset shape - draw a head shape in proportion to the neck and body-turn head slightly as shown Click on pen tool - insert arrow into bottom node- right click, node type, symmetric.Pull the right side of the arrow down and slightly over to the left to give this shape for adding the beak.
