Field
players must use a stick approved by the IFF. The blade curvature
cannot exceed 30 mm when measured from the bottom of the blade.
All tampering with the stick, except curving the blade and changing
the blade, is not allowed. Field players are not allowed to
wear personal equipment like watches, earrings, jewelry, etc.
Team Captains are the only players allowed to speak directly
to referees. Captains are distinguished by an armlet on their
left arm.
The
advantage rule:
If an infraction is committed but the non-offending
team keeps control of the ball, and the referee thinks the team
gains a greater advatage from continuing the play than from
receiving a free hit, then play will not be interrupted.
The
following infractions will result in a free hit:
• If a player hits, blocks, lifts, or kicks an
opponent's stick.
• If a player hits an opponent's foot or leg with the
stick.
• If a player swings higher than his waist with his stick,
either in back or front swing.
• If a player plays the ball above knee level with his
stick or his body, including the thigh.
• If a player places his leg or foot between an opponent's
feet.
• If a player forces or pushes an opponent in any other
way than shoulder to shoulder.
• If a player moves backwards into an opponent, or prevents
an opponent from moving in the direction intended.
• If a player kicks the ball twice in a row, or passes
the ball to a team mate with his foot.
• If a player is in the goalkeeper's area (either one)
or intentionally moves the goal cage.
• If a player is closer than 3 m to the goalie during
a throw out.
• If a player jumps up to stop the ball - he must have
at least one foot on the ground to get control of a ball in
the air.
• If a player catches the ball or plays it with his hand
in any way.
• If a free hit is incorrectly performed or intentionally
delayed.
• If a player intentionally "plays time" by
placing himself close to the rink or the goal in a way that
the opponent cannot get the ball.
The
following infractions result in a penalty:
• Please refer to Field
player penalties in the middle column.

Goaltenders
play on their knees without a stick. They wear knee pads, a
cup, a mask, shoes, and special goalie pants and shirt. Goalies
catch the ball with both hands and "throw out" the
ball to pass it to teammates. If a goaltender leaves his goal
crease, he is considered a field player, but without a stick,
meaning that the goaltender can only kick the ball to opposing
team players.
The
following infractions result in a free hit:
• If a goalie keeps the ball in posession for
over 3 seconds.
• If a goalie throws or kicks the ball so that it hasn't
landed before it crosses the centre line.
• If a goalie leaves the goal crease with posession of
the ball, such as during a throw out.
• If a player passes the ball to a goalie for the second
time before the ball has crossed the centre line.
The
following infractions will result in a penalty:
• If a goalie fails to put the goal cage back into the
correct position after a warning from the referee. It is the
goalie's duty to fix the goal cage as soon as possible if it
has moved during play.
Field
player penalties
The following field player infractions will result in a penalty:
• If a player performs violent or dangerous strikes with
his stick.
• If a player hooks an opponent's body.
• If a player throws his stick.
• If a player attacks an opponent.
• If a player tackles or trips an opponent against the
boards or the goal cage.
• If a player commits frequent offences leading to free
hits.
• If a player acts in an unsportsmanlike manner.
Please
refer to the official
rules (pgs. 24-34) for an in-depth explanation concerning
2-minute, 5-minute, and match penalties.

•
Official rink size: 40m x 20m
• Goalie area: No field players are allowed in this area.
• Regular game time: 3 x 20mins, effective, one timeout
each. Teams switch sides between periods.
• If a game ends in a tie, a limited sudden death extra
time is used to determine the winner. If the game is still tied
after extra time, each team takes 5 penalty shots and the team
that scores more goals wins.
Free
hits:
• A fixed situation will occur from approximately
the same place where the infraction occurred, but always at
least 3.5 m from the goaltenders area.
• A free hit cannot be unreasonably delayed, and the ball
must be hit cleanly, not dragged, flicked, or lifted.
• The opposing team must give the shooter 3 m space. The
shooter can elect to shoot or pass the ball. The defending team
can elect to form a "wall" 3 m away to try to block
a possible shot. If the creation of a "wall" is obstructed
a free hit will be awarded to the defending team.
Penalty
shots:
• Penalty shots are taken from the centre line,
and when being taken, no other players except the shooting field
player and the opposing goalie are to be in the rink
• The ball must move forward for the entire penalty shot,
and the penalty shot is over when the goalie touches the ball.
Offences
leading to a penalty shot:
• A penalty shot is awarded if a goal situation is prevented
from occuring because the defending team committed an offence
leading to a free hit or a penalty.
• If a defending player blocks a shot while in the goal
crease or the goal cage, or intentionally moves the goal cage,
a penalty shot is always awarded. |
