BOCA DEL RIO
Boca del Rio has a couple of sides to it.. The most notable areas are around the couple of large, modern shopping complexes named Plaza Macombo and Plaza del las Americas... http://www.slide.com/r/hMFF3Qbf7D_Dds0BEk_61QgjEpUWH9nk
In and around the Boca del Rio are large super-stores such as Walmart, Cosco, Soreana, Mega, Sam’s Club, Home Depot and others.. even a Harley Davidson Store... There are too many local bars & restaurants to begin to name and several American franchise restaurant such as Mcdonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Bennigans, Subway and a few others whose names I can't recall at the moment.. The large International Trade Center building is located right next to the Plaza Americas complex making this a very busy area indeed..
All along the coastal area you'll see either large, expensive private dwellings, highrise apartment/condo buildings, or large tourist resort type hotels with the usual amenities.. ($$) ... Most anywhere you see bare ground some type of building is in the process of being put up..
BEACH: Playa Macombo is the largest and most popular beach in this part of Boca del Rio, attracting hordes of people during holidays and warm weather.. It is located behind Hotel Macombo.. near the Plaza Americas shopping complex.
Boca del Rio.. the pueblo

The sleepy, pueblo part of Boca del Rio is located in extreme south end of the city and has retained the slower, more easier going pace of a small town. Everything is within walking distance that you’ll more than likely be interested in going to.. Within the first 2-3 blocks, along the rivers edge, there are several small, palapa restaurants, some nice little hotels (with pretty reasonable prices) 45 minute - 1 hr launch rides are available for a first-hand view of the rivers edge.. The traditional looking town hall (Palacio Municipal) and central square are located a couple of blocks from the river's edge....
Several festivals and other activities are held here annually.. The beach "Playa Boca del Rio" is nearby being It is another very popular beach and draws large crowds.. The beach is located at the extreme, southern end of town, where the river Jamapa enters the gulf of Mexico.. and hence the name of the town "Boca del Rio".. , or "the mouth of the river"... ( just a few blocks east from the central square).. Playa Boca del Rio pics.. http://travel.webshots.com/slideshow/558120566apZBkY
The Casa de Culturo is located on Calle Veracruz and has some nice artifacts from the Remojada Culture on display.. http://travel.webshots.com/album/558120407usSHOJ .. Freindly staff, snackbar, restrooms and no entry fee.. Well worth a stop if your interested in the pre-hispanic indian cultures and in the area..
Currently (Mar 10-07) a large piece of the old river is being reclaimed to construct a brand new malacon and make a parking berth for a boat to be tied up. Some say it is going to be a gambling boat, others say a Naval Museum. http://travel.webshots.com/slideshow/558119816UOxkJE;jsessionid=abcHbvO94VuvYhxOrRVPr
Looking across the river you will also observe there is a pretty good size marina with all kinds of construction going on around and behind it..
UPDATE DEC 28TH / 07.. Speculations and rumors of new gambling boat or Museum turned out to be just that.. local BS..
The boat is a retired navy vessel named the Guanajuato.. It has just been opened to the public Dec 26th - 07.. It formerly sat alongside the malcon in Veracruz before finding its new home here in Boca del Rio..
The newly restored ship has a bar and restaurant locted on deck.. On the lower deck it has an interactive museum for children with educational exhibits, video games.. Restaurant opens at 9 AM daily. Inside you’ll notice the boat is richly decorated with fine woodwork, unusual for this type of steel ship.. Part of the boats service history includes defending the Mexican coast during World War II..... http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2850869620084458781hLoKSy
Getting around Boca del Rio (the old town) is fairly easy to do
.. Most places of interest lie alongside a few blocks of the river front and the Palacio Municipal lies just a couple blocks from the river.. The nearby, popular beach is a bit of a walk, especially on a hot day. (perhaps 15-20 minute walk from Palacio municipal) If riding is more your stile grab a taxi for 20 pesos for the short ride.. What you can't get to on foot can easily be reached by a local bus (any blue or yellow bus marked Boca del Rio) which runs the entire legnth of Bulevard to downtown area in Veracruz for 5 pesos.. (playa macombo, aquario, parque Zamora, mercado, malacon / zocalo, etc..)
