Why??.. I decided to move to Mexico
Who cares? Probably no-one, but in the event one or two of you might be curious, (or have nothing better to do at the moment than read this) ... I will continue.... You may ask.. "how / why does one decide to move to Mexico?" .. I can’t speak for others, but in my case.. I came here thinking to escape a few months from the cold winter weather of the upper Midwest.. It sure as hell isn't "Nirvana", but for an inexplicable variety of reasons I find myself living here on a permanent bases.
Previously to my moving to Veracruz in 1998, I began winter vacationing in Cancun in 1989.. Over the next 8 yrs I traveled over much of the states of Quintana Roo, the Yucatan, Campeche and parts of the Chiapas..
In Feb. of 1998 I decided to widen my horizons (outside of the cancun area) and together with a friend of mine we made a trip to Veracruz.. What an experience that was!! Completely different type of Mexican town than any I had been in before.. after 11 days I was hooked and knew that I would be back soon..I made second trip for a week the end of April and began looking around at housing possibilities.. I made one more 10 day trip over 4th of July holiday.. Went home back home to finish up some work commitments, sold my home improvement business and moved here on semi-permanent bases around the end of October of 1998..
Over the next few yrs I lived in Veracruz about 6 months a yr and in the USA the remainder of the yr.. Several of my previous clients knew of my current life style and would wait until I was in states for me to do their work.. I kept a small house in USA and an apartment rented in Veracruz from a friend of mine yr-round.. This went on for several yrs.. In 2002 I retired from work completely, in 2003 I sold my home in USA and continued to live in both countries part time.. I moved to Veracruz on a more permanent bases in 2004..
UPDATE 4/4/08........ "Must be something in the water..??" Time flies when your having fun.. been 10 yrs now since I first laid eyes on this place..Still learning something new everyday..
