Attractions in Xalapa

El centro..  the following attractions are all within a couple block area.. The Central park Bonito Juarez, the Govenors Palace, the Palacio Municipal, the Cathedral and the Callejón del Diamante    http://travel.webshots.com/album/558059136jepkjZ

Parque Juarez.. At the back corner of Parque Juarez you'll find an observation-deck with a splendid view of the surrounding mountains.. Arrive here early on a clear day and you may even see the snow-capped peak mountain called "Pico de Orizaba" ..  Lots of good foto ops, don't forget your camera...

Italian Coffee Company... After all this eye-strain and before you take off for a walk to somewhere else..  you may find you need to take a break.. good place to do it is right under your feet.  Look for the stairs leading under the observation-deck to the Italian Coffee Company restaurant..  Pleasant spot with a good view to grab your favorite flavor of cafe and or a bite to eat.. clean restrooms.......

Paso de los Los Lagos.. Looking down and off the back of the observation deck you'll notice a lake. This is called Paseo de los Lagos, which is actually a park with three small, man-made lakes.. There are nice walkways around them with trees, plants and flowers all over.. especially pretty when in bloom!!  http://travel.webshots.com/album/557616167ciSoBo

Casa de Artesanías..  at the one end overlooking the lakes is a renovated colonial mansion. Not much to see inside, but there is no entrance fee and has an excellent, birds-eye view of the lake in front of it.. is worth a look-see either before, or after your stroll around the lakes..

A FEW BLOCKS AWAY FROM EL CENTRO

Parque Ecologico los Tecajetes.. about a 10 minute walk east of Parque Juarez on Ave. Camacho.....a very nice park full of lush plants and large trees..

Centro Recreativo... a few blocks south from the Gov Palace is a renovated mansion with a very pretty courtyard.. The building is used as a local arts display. The displays change periodically..

U.V. park.. another nice park to walk about with plants and trees is located by the university in Xalapa a little further away from el centro..    http://travel.webshots.com/album/558199841PyNVBt

El Mirador de Macuiltepetl.. For a splendid view.. climb the steps, or hike the winding road up to EL Mirrador at the the top of the old volcano..

At the bottom is an ecological reserve with lush vegetation. There are several species of butterflies, birds and some reptiles from the region.

NOTE: Parque Macuiltépetl is located nearby the Museum de Antropologia so you may want to visit them both while your in this neck of the woods.. Otherwise its a long walk, (40 minutes or so) or a 20 -25 peso taxi ride from el centro..

Museo de Antropologia:   Located on Av. Jalapa y Acueducto... Open daily except Mondays  from  9:00am until 5:00pm...  $15 pesos entry fee, free on Sundays. Pictures allowed, but no flash.. At the front desk you can rent a elctronic device with headphones that translates the spanish discriptions of the displays into about 6 other languages including english.. well worth the extra 20 pesos they charge for it..  pics >  http://community.webshots.com/album/558055100BJyZot

WEATHER: In the hot summer months it cools down nicely of an evening and in first half of morning hrs before turning off hot.. many days there will be a light drizzle called called chipy, chippy....

From Dec thru March be sure to take along a sweater, med weight jacket, or something to keep you warm.. Coldest of days / evenings temps can get down in 50's..40's...
