Sergeant Seay was killed in action 25 Aug 1968 while serving as a driver on a resupply mission from Long Binh to Tay Ninh.
Carrying critically needed ammunition and supplies, the convoy was ambushed by intense enemy fire. Sergeant Seay moved behind the wheel of an ammunition truck and opened fire, killing two of the enemy, and then turned to kill a sniper. An enemy grenade was thrown under an ammunition trailer near him; he retrieved it and threw it back, killing four more. Wounded in the wrist, he took cover in a ditch. As he stood, firing with his left hand, he killed three enemy soldiers, but was mortally wounded by a sniper's bullet.
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action, Sergeant Seay was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
