"No" to the car

A metallic Mercedes Sport, that was, what the choice most likely would be.

Untill then, while still studiing, a Citroen 2 CV had to be it.

But then, one sunny summerday, there was that man lying on the road after an accident, with one leg crushed and a lot of blood around.

Jee, that this can happen to anybody, driving around in such a thing.

As a result enthousiasm to go on driving was tempered substancially.

When a few years later so called environmentalists started pointing out, that cars are polluting the air to breath in, something broke. That no!! Nothing should spoil the intense joy of waking up with the window open widely, after which a few inhales of purely fresh air, filled which lots of plantfragrance and condensed (clean) riverwater, are sufficient, to be fit for the rest of the day.

From then on, car use was reduced essentially. And besides of that, the idea of later on driving in whatever a luxurous one, was as good as gone.

It was very astonishing, to notice, that it was as if from then on others around seemed to have thrown restrictions overboard and more and more were regarding the car and it's use as one of the ultimate values in life, which resulted in a terrible deterioration of livability in the country and the ones around.

This time and time again remembered of the few "carless sundays", there had been a few years earlier, (as a result of an oil-crisis, caused by a reduced deliverance by Arab states, for political reasons). The distance between the salutariness of that and the opposte of reality just kept on growing.

As a result the conclusion was drawn, that the comfort of easily reaching all kinds of destinations, no matter the weather, doesn't weigh up to it's drawbacks. So in principle car wasn't used at all any more.

It took quite a while, before the adiction to still use it from time to time was mastered completely, in that sence, that it was as self-evident to use a bike, bus ore train, as it once was, to get into that little monster.

But the result was and still is very much worth while.

It brought back nearness to many values, that gradually had been lost out of reach, because inside that rolling cage one doesn't feel them, doesn't smell them and hardly sees them, because one passes them in fractions of a second, instead of in minutes.

Inside that cage one never gets any soft spring rain in his face any more (nor bitter cold ice rain, or swirling snowflakes, after which the skin starts sparkling again, like it used to in early winterdays).

Without that, probably by now the so maniest face-lift would have been unavoidable.

Just to mention a few things.

Besides, like this one always has the peace of mind, one isn't also to blame for all kinds of occuring environmental disasters and human violence, as far as it's instigated by crude oil supply; (this the more when one reduced use of motorised means of transportation like busses and trains to a minimum as well, as has happened rather recently in this case, whereas traveling by airplain has never been an option and there are no plans to change that; http://groups.msn.com/Vivism1/whynoflying.msnw ).
