 Knit Out & Crochet 2003

Special Stitch:

Elmore double crochet (Edc):  yarn over (yo), insert hook into (top of) stitch and pull up a loop; yo and pull through the same loop (or chain 1); yo and pull through two loops twice.  The difference from a traditional double crochet is underlined.

 

Motif Medallion #1

Round 1:  Ch 5; *Edc, ch 1 in first chain; rep from * 10 times; sl st into 4th chain of ch-5 to end round.

 

Motif Medallion #2

Round 1:  Ch 4; 15 Edc in first chain; sl st in top of ch-4 to end round.

 

Special Stitch:

Front post double crochet (fpdc):  the double crochet is worked around the post of the stitch, inserting the hook from back to front.

 

Motif Medallion #3

Round 1:  Ch 4; 11 dc in first chain; sl st in top of ch-4.

Round 2:  Ch 2; fpdc around ch-4 of previous round; *hdc in top of next dc; fpdc around same dc; rep from * 10 times; sl st in top of ch-2 to end round.

 

Motif Medallion #4

Round 1:  Ch 4; *dc, ch 1; rep from * 10 times; sl st in top of ch-4 to end round.

Round 2:  Ch 1; *hdc in ch-1 space; fpdc around next dc; rep from * 10 times; sl st in top of ch-1 to end round.

 

Special Stitch:

Treble crochet (tr):  yo twice, insert hook into (top of) stitch, yo and pull up a loop, yo and pull through two loops three times.

 

Motif Medallion #5

Round 1:  Ch 1; 12 sc in first chain; sl st in top of first sc to end round.

Round 2:  Ch 2; tr in front loop of first sc; sc in back loop of same sc; *tr in front loop of next sc and sc in back loop of same sc; repeat from * around; sl st in top of first tr to end round.  Fasten off.

(originally designed using Lustersheen (size 3 thread)
or 2 strands of size 10 thread and a 0 or 00 steel hook)
 
 
Note:  The beginning chain 3 or 4 becomes the first stitch of that round.
 
Version 1:
Foundation:  Chain (ch) 6, slip stitch (sl st) in first ch to close ring.
 
Round 1:  Ch 4, *double crochet (dc) in ring, ch 1; repeat from * 10 times (ch 3 + 11 dcs = 12 stitches (sts)); sl st in 3rd chain of ch-4 to end round.  Ch 1.
 
Round 2:  Working clockwise (from left to right), *reverse single crochet (rsc) in ch-1 space to right, ch 1; repeat from * 11 times; pull up loop through first ch-1 from back of medallion, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through.  Fasten off, leaving a 6" tail; weave in.
 

 
Version 2:
Foundation:  Chain (ch) 6, slip stitch (sl st) in first ch to close ring.
 
Round 1:  Ch 3, 11 double crochets (dcs) in ring (ch 3 + 11 dcs = 12 stitches (sts)); sl st in top of ch-3 to end round.  Ch 1.
 
Round 2:  Single crochet (sc) to the left of the ch 3 stitch (first dc), *ch 1, sc between the next two sts; repeat from * 11 times; pull loop through first ch 1 from back of medallion, insert hook in same stitch, yarn over and pull through.  Fasten off, leaving a 6" tail; weave in.
 
Feel free to experiment with different types of fibers and sizes of hooks.
